soon ill be getting a new guitar and i was looking at the classic player jag.

i play mainly funk, blues and rock and the gujtarists who im looking to 'imitate' are frusciante, hendrix, hazel. mainly strat users

normally i would get a strat but i have a squier which i think im going to put in a humbucker since when i get my new guitar i dont want it to go to waste nd i love it. like that ill be able to do grunge (nirvana style) slightly better

the tone im looking for is slightly think in the neck pickup but dry, twangy and funky in the bridge. it need to sound good with some dist (from a ds-2) and clean as well as i like the whole interval and extented chord idea (like JF's solo work)

my budget is 600 to 800 euro

You really need to try a Jaguar, but if you like the sound and feel of a strat... get a strat?

The sounds you want and the players you mention says buy a better Strat to me. Maybe a CV model. The Jaguar seems like a second option but they dont have the same 'spank' as a Strat which is a classic ingredient in Funk playing.

i really dont want a strat though...as much as i love them i already have one

i heard the CP jag has hotter pick ups than normal jags so it sound slightly more like a strat...is this true?

also has anyone played a baja telecaster?

I own a Baja Telecaster and I would definitely say it's capable of funky 'spank' and suchlike. The only real way of finding out whether somethings for you though is to play one yourself.

Its not so much the pickups as the construction, Strat strings sit close to the body which imo makes it more percussive. Might be worth checking a Duo Sonic on this theory.
Baja Tele's are really nice, definitely try one!

Well the Jag has more tones because of the switching options but the Baja has the classic noticeable tones. Both great guitars in their own right, unfair to compare really.

i doubt ill use the S-1 switch...dont like out of phase pick ups...

what is the treble switch on the jag for. i think it makes it sound thinner. am i correct?

It's a high pass filter, it reduces bass frequencies from the signal, increasing apparent brightness. It's somewhat thinner sounding, but can have its place, depending on what you're playing and the other instruments involved.

To me it sounds like you would benefit from at least trying some nice strats. Squiers are good value but there's a world of difference across the budget range. I'm not sure of a model to recommend but in your budget you have an awful lot of options. A tele is definitely one to consider too.

You'll also benefit massively from off-loading the DS-2 and buying some decent. It's hard to overstate that.

I am building a Baja Tele and own an AVRI Jag. Both guitars has lots of tone options. I do recommend playing the Jag before you buy to see if you like the shorter scale and the jag trem. I have heard lots of good things about the CP Jags and wouldn't hesistate to purchase one if its what you want. I almost bought the CP jag, but the used AVRI Jag turned up(deal of a lifetime) and I couldn't turn it down. Maybe this will help:

Jon Frus favored a fiesta red jaguar for a couple of years, they are very versatile guitars.

Perfect for that funk bluesy rock style!

i disagree about the ds-2...i love its tone plus i just bought it...im hardly gonna replace it

i disagree about the ds-2...i love its tone plus i just bought it...im hardly gonna replace it

Actually Frusciante used(s) the ds-2 in his peppers days(at least then). As far as the rest I agree that you should check out some strats... try out a 68 reissue strat (MIJ if you can find one about), they are great for what your wanting to do and have an awesome neck profile (well under your budget as well)

yeah "if you can find one" .. check ebay and other online sells. Sometimes they come in GC stores and you could purchase online/phone, best place to look is used instrument stores local to you - those are going to be the best deals
