Apologies in advance for not providing links in this thread, I'm posting off my phone.

I'm about to place an order for power stuff from johnnyshredfreak, and I was wondering if anyone has experience of the patch cables they sell. The sell three types: bootlace type plastic ones, all metal 15" ones (with proper neutrik jacks) and half metal, half plastic ones, that come in different sizes (these also have neutrik jacks, but a different sort).

It's these third ones I'm interested in. I actually thought they were the same as the second type, was set to order, then realised my mistake.

I'm wondering if anyone has used these cables and if they're any good. If not, I can always get jacks and cable separate and make my own.

I've bought the Neutrik Jack patch leads from there before and they've been spot on. They're good quality and I've had no bother with them since having them on my board. That'd be my recommendation but it's up to you, obviously.

Edit: I've bought both types that you mention - those that are made completely from metal and the one's with the plastic on them. Both work great. Although I'd say that the latter are a tad bigger and caused a few problems when trying to have pedals close together on my board.

I'd go for cheepz pan Plugs for bitsbox. Cheap as cheap. Solder the right lenght of cable in.
They're solid enough for me.they're really flat so you can squeeze pedals up close and snug.

Is there any real need to spend money on quality jacks? What are people's thoughts on this? Is quality cable more important, or is there no point spending money on one and not the other?

I just get the cheapest patch cables I can find, as long as they're shielded it's alright. They won't be moved a lot since they'll be on my pedalboard and any capacitance due to length will be negligible.

I'm not really able to answer your question, but when I went from cheap patch cables to George Ls the difference was like night and day.
Instinctively I would say that was mostly due to the cable, but maybe a combination of both.

Exactly same impressions here when I changed to George L's

+1 on the George L front. Recently swapped out all my nasty cheap patch cables for them. As mentioned above, couldn't tell you if that was down to the cable or jack, but as a package I would say it was worth the money.

I'm not sure I can see the benefit of patch cable kit. I'm thinking that rather than do that, I might get 30 or so jacks and 30 metres of cable, and do it myself. I've read good things about Sommer cable and I'm willing to bet it's better than the stuff you get from George L. Maybe not, I don't know, I'm guessing a bit.

I use them man. You can get them from bits box for like 60p or something. And the p+p is always 1.50 too. And there postage is really really quick.

I think you will get decent results that way. I am just lazy and my soldering sucks. That's one of the reasons I went with George L.
