Other than all viola shape basses, MUSICMASTER/mustang basses, EB basses, and the Gretsch Jet thingy?

They are all out of my price range, and the new bronco squier is kinda a piece of shit.

ANY HELP!? Even off brand copies? ANYTHING I kinda like the Rondo music Shortscale P-bass thingy. RAH!

HALP.

I personally play a 78 Musicmaster. I was lucky enough to find one for 300 Canadian.. with new pickup and a better bridge, so at least I wouldn't feel guilty about being the one that changed it!

With that said. The Bronco bass is the same body as the Musicmaster and Mustang, and the routes are the same as the musicmaster. If you dug that bass, you could always just buy a less crappy bridge, and change the pickup. Heck, if you wanted to change the look of it you could do that too. I reckon you could find a used one for 100 or even a bit less.

Otherwise, you can sometimes find the old Peavey T40 for not a lot of money, and they were pretty rocking basses that I think were shortscale.

The Squier Bronco is so cheap you could mod it into a much nicer instrument and it would still be cheaper than the Mustang bass.

Check this thread on talkbass, 11 pages of people listing their shortscale basses. There will be loads worth looking at: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=379257

Rondomusic.com has several SX branded short scale basses. We bought my little brother one of the regular scale models as his first bass and it's quite nice.

Yep . I think they're all 30" scale with the exception of the EEB/EUB bass. I have a Hi Flyer bass. I like it . Just needed a set up and fret work out the box .

A really good cheap one I would think would be a Squier Bronco . A used one you can grab for like $100 bucks and then just mod the shit out of it . You can make a killer short scale bass cheap with one of those .

I want to say Rickenbacker makes or made a shortscale bass too .

They play really well because Dano oils all their fretboards with the blood of homosexuals.

Yeah i know all about them. Not saying I agree (I highly disagree with their Yes on Prop 8 crap). But if you found one of these in a pawn shop you wouldn't be giving Dano money directly...

Ya wanna find one used.

I think for a begininner (my girlfriend), the Rondo sfx line, or the Bronco will be best bet...

But she hates the Bronco, yet loves the mustang?!!? Must convince her I can make it look like a mustang!
