So I have a diago pedalboard, its served me well for the past few years but recently the loop velcro attached the board keeps coming away from the board whenever a pedal is removed, meaning I have to glue the velcro back down constantly.

I was just wondering if there could be a better way to be doing this? I swap and change my pedal setup a fair bit so it has to be something removable - not like the johnny shred freak screw in thingies.

I really like the idea of these:

Essentially couldn't I achieve the same effect by just sticking a shag pile rug into the case? Also does anyone know where I could purchase a cheap but thick shag pile rug?

I've been meaning to start a similar thread. I remember ages ago someone advised reaaalllly strong velcro. I'm wondering what that is and where they got it.

There was definitely an ebay seller or something that sold really strong velcro. Searching the forums didn't turn up any meaningful results.

I recall a thread on hcfx about some hyper velcro and how some bloke tried to nick a timefactor and ended up ripping his fingernails off in the process.

haha, serves him right.

3 of my pedals now rattle around in my case any time i move it, i need to brush out the material inside, it's obviously gone flat and there's nothing for the hooks to grab.

If you have a decent pedalboard which takes velcro hooks then using the Heavy Duty stuff from ebay (3M?) has always been plenty strong enough for me.

VELCROFACT: Loop wears out, not hook. That's why, when we use velcro to hang shows, we put hook on the picture and loop on the walls. Replace your loop occasionally, peoples.

but the loop part is actually the board covering, so it'd mean getting a new bit of material then cutting and glueing it down. nobody uses the adhesive loop stuff that comes with the velcro, that just gets chucked away.

You need to get the heavy duty Velcro stuff. They sell it in WHSmiths... I've used it on my board for the past year and it's absolutely solid. It doesn't come off your pedals and it's reasonably easy to pull pedals off your board.

Seriously, if you want to carry on using velcro then I can't advise this more.

I can lift my whole board up by my volume pedal without it coming off... and my board weighs an absolute tonne!!!

I was given a Kinsman pedalboard/flight case lined with loopy material which came with a strip of 3M stick-back Velcro hooks. The bond between hooks and loops is too strong. Either the loopy material tends to pull off the board or the hook strip pulls off the pedal, so I'm doing it wrong somehow.

TIP; before sticking the sticky on the pedal, make sure the pedal's REALLY clean where you're going to stick the sticky.

BTW, the Stagg pedalboard/cases look identical to the Kinsman

Just got an email back from diago:

Superglue (cyanoacrylate) isn't the right glue to use on wood and fabric together. You need to use "contact adhesive". You should be able to buy it from any good hardware store either in a tin or a spray can - either is fine. Applied properly, it is very, very stong and shouldn't come away from the board again. I'd recommend following the instructions on the packaging, but in general the following applies:

1) Cover both surfaces in glue and leave to dry for around 15 minutes (until it is touch dry).
2) Then place both surfaces together, taking care to get it right first time - it's very unlikely to move once you've stuck it down.
3) Apply firm pressure all over to bond the two surfaces together.
4) Leave it half an hour or so to cure properly and you're set to put your pedals back on.

The grey / black carpet material works well type 0174, 0175 or 0177.

Alternatively, I've heard of people who make their own boards having good success with certain kinds of carpet tiles or car mats.

I think I'll give what he suggested a go. Wouldn't mind a cool colour carpet though, rather than black or grey. Anyone know where I could get red or green?

I use that too, but I punched holes in it and used the pedal box screws to hold the velcro to the pedals. Works great.

You should check out new york city pedal boards....google it.

I use zip ties to fasten all my pedals through the wood.....it makes my jazzmaster sound so much better...
