I'm close to getting a used one and would like some opinions, And any details you liked or didn't.
I have a 1960 Duo-Sonic and don't expect too much but still hoping I won't be disappointed.

It is stupid amazing. All I can say. Not disappointed with anything.
Hope you like glossy maple necks cause its supah glossy.

Electronics are good, but not much tonal differance between each pickup. Still amaging.

I love mine. Make sure to put heavier strings on it (at least .11s) or you might have issues. I demoed mine on youtube with .10s and If I pushed too hard, it sounded like it was out of tune. the heavier strings fixed the problem. Pickups are good and the neck is nice. Only negative is the neck is a bleached color, but it will darken with time. The basswood body is light and makes for a warm sounding guitar. The stock tuners are good as well. I got mine for $250 on eBay. Probably the best starter shortscale for the money and it lives up to the Classic vibe reputation.

I had one for a while. Still wish I had it, truth be told. It felt... Solid. Especially for a shortscale Squier. As has been said, Albino neck is glossy as hell, but solid. pickups were decent, tuners, hardware, etc. If you can try it out before you buy do so, as some of the other members of the forum had some funky ones straight from the factory.

I love the CV Duo Sonic with the Bronco knobs! I might have to try that on mine.

It's true, Every guitar looks better with Bronco Knobs!

I really wish I bought one of these instead a CV strat.
My only hope is Squier will add more colors soon. Not a fan of the desert sand.

Noob question--any particular brand you can recommend? I have 2 sets of GHS Nickel Rockers .10s that I got with my Tele that I returned. But since you mentioned the tuning issues you had, I might just save those for the BT JM.

I personally use Elixir nanoweb on both acoustic and electrics. It may be placebo but I think they stay feeling and sounding nice much longer than normal none coated strings. I used to be an Ernie Ball man, not least because super slinky is fun to say (actually I mostly used regular slinkys but still).

I still buy the occasional set of ernie balls if I don't want to spend the extra money or if I think the strings might come off again quite quickly.

All down to personal preference I 'spose. When it was a kid the cheapest were Roto Pinks, tore my fingers up on those bastards will never touch them again.

Stratonuclear, I just bought a used CV Duo-Sonic and am very pleased.

It was in true mint condition and with a gig bag it came to $229.00 USD.

I played it several times before I bought it and was instantly impressed with the pickups and the neck...set up was perfect for me. The tech measured the intonation and it was dead-on. Important with Duos cuz I heard some can be hard to intonate. So that's something to check carefully before you buy.

Regarding difference between the pickups, I enjoy scratchy gain like Faces and I use both pups for that with amp gain at around 7. For a Stones raunch-rock tone I use the bridge pup with amp gain at 5. For Woman Tone a la Cream I use the neck pup only, with tone down to about 2 and the amp gain at 7. Point being, each pup serves me well to get a variety of distinct tones.

The only limitation is that I'm pushing the limits with any shortscale...my hands are medium sized (I'm 6 ft., 179 lbs.) and playing up near the body gets a bit tight. But that makes my technique more precise.

I love the light weight, small size, the shape, and the colors, even the neck color which so many people dislike. I put amber tone knobs on it and they look great against the gold guard.

Well, that's some great feedback. Made it an easy decision.

Wow, sort of a shocker here. Just got the Duo-Sonic in and from the picture on the GC used gear site, the pickguard wasn't at a position to make any sort of reflection, so I thought that was just the angle of the shot. No, it arrived with a black pickguard instead of the gold pickguard! And the tuners were replaced by metal tuners. I can't tell what make/model as there's no indication on them (and I know squat about tuners). I'm not disappointed by these additions, just surprised, although a tortoise pickguard would have been preferable. Will upload a couple of shots in a few.

That's an new one that I have never seen before. Maybe it is a new model they were not supposed to sell yet? I like it very much.

As with all CVs it needs bronco knobs as I don't think the knurled look too good. Other than that it looks amazing.
