Does it have a good clean sound? i have a fender hot rod deluxe, and want to trade it for a head with a good clean sound and lots of headroom.

Get a bassman? The 900 is probably my least favourite

900's are not known for cleans from what I always understood.

They can GO somewhat clean, it's just a more chunky and robust sort of clean, rather than a sparkly Fender kind of deal that'd you'd get from the Hot Rod:

You can always use some lower gain preamp tubes to reign in the crunch a little.

Worked well with le Strat in those videos, but fuck me that last guys tone was awful though. I don't really think I've seen many nice clean tones with Les Pauls in general anyway.

I played my bosses 900 the other day at work and totally fell in love with it. I liked the clean a lot, but way more bassy and fat than a fender clean for sure.

Yeah, the 900 was pretty much meant to give louder cleans than other Marshalls at the time. I use my 50-watt 4500 as a Fender substitute... enough headroom for loud cleans and spring reverb.
My brother opted to use it instead of his 2000TSL towards the end of his tenure with his last band because the 900 got nicer cleans.
