I've always fancied one of these but never tried one, has anyone on here had any experience that they'd like to share. I'm thinking it might help my Muffs stand out more in the mix in just EQ mode plus have the added usefullness of the fuzz.

Conventional wisdom is: they're a little bit cack. Never tried one myself, mind, but read enough iffy reports to not particularly want to either. Watts is always hankering after one, which should say it all really.

Yes, I have an Electro Harmonix GRAPHIC FUZZ. My one is a re-issue in the large housing, about ten years old. So not the new, XO series one. Here are my thoughts...

I am happy with the Graphic Fuzz. I bought it new and I feel it is decent value for money because of the graphic EQ section it has. It is cheaper than getting separate fuzz and eq pedals (for example, a Big Muff and a Boss GE7).

One really good thing with the Graphic Fuzz is that the fuzz can be completely turned off and it can be used as a dedicated graphic EQ pedal if you wish. It's a real dual effect pedal.

I don't have a Big Muff so I don't know how the Graphic Fuzz compares to that. I don't know whether the Graphic Fuzz is effectively a Big Muff with an graphic EQ section added. Interested to know though.

The EQ section of the Graphic Fuzz provides great tonal variation. The versatility this provides is its strong point.

When I bought the Graphic Fuzz I did not have separate graphic EQ capabilities. In fact it was the Graphic Fuzz that demonstrated to me the importance and benefit of having graphic eq.

I would say that the Graphic Fuzz is a relatively 'polite' fuzz. It's not an outrageous or crazy fuzz. There is good variation in gain. At the lowest gain level it is almost overdrive territory. I usually use it at high/full fuzz gain level.

The Graphic Fuzz certainly benefits from having some kind of drive pedal before it in the chain, in order to give it that extra umph, dirt, rasp or sustain. Combined with an overdrive, distortion or another fuzz, the Graphic Fuzz can give you loads of different sounds and tones.

Thanks for that. Due to mixed reviews i'd like to give one a try I think.

I'd based my desire on the fact that EHX make some good fuzzes. I was warned off them.

It's not a fuzz, really. It's a fairly tame overdrive and EQ.

Thanks Aen. I'm not really after a fuzz but would want something that's a bit more than tame so i'm thinking it's probably not for me, although I would still like to try one out.

I heard the XO sounded a fair bit different to the original and/or reissue; maybe one to try out in person first.

It's still one it'd like to check out though, I love a dirt pedal with a decent EQ, plus I totally dug Belew's drive sounds here, courtesy of a G-Fuzz:

I got it from the horse's mouth: the fuzz circuits in the Graphic Fuzz reissue and the Big Muff version 9 are not the same.

What's it like? Is it the old or new version?

Proper big box reissue. I liked it for just experimenting with overdrive sounds. Certainly isn't muff like or a fuzz in general

Not enough love for the EHX G/Fuzz here. Personally, I don't have a problem with the Graphic Fuzz's fuzz capabilities at higher gain settings and with the envelope settings raised. Nice palette of tones available. And loads more colour and umph on tap when combined with another gain pedal. Stick a distortion or something with it. I like the Boss HM2 stacked with the EHX Graphic Fuzz after it: loads of tones, grit, sustain and fuzz available.
