Old SG copy probably from Japan. I was on craigslist on my lunch break and this was the first post. Seller said it was a Gibson, but that was obviously not the case. I called him and picked it up after work. Cool sunburst (my first sunburst guitar), Jazzmaster trem (missing the arm, and the spring is so rusted that it hardly functions). Needs a rewire for the bridge pickup, but for 60$, I don't care. Unplugged it sounds similar to a banjo, plugged in its decent. Zero fret and low action. No angle on the headstock. I want to put on a Gibson label but misspell it. Gabson or Gobson?

The trem looks really rusted and beat up, but it's surprisingly smooth.

Sweet guitar! I jut picked up my first Japanese copy and I can't put it down. A Jag trem on an SG is a pretty cool idea.


Also, a 24.75 inch isn't a shortscale is it?

If Cyclones and Toronados count as shortscales, so does this.

But it is because they're Fenders and the Fender standard is 25.5. Gibson guitars (and copies as well) are standard 24.75. Aw well, fuck it. lovely guitar . . ..

That makes sense. It doesn't matter to me. It's still a guitar.

That SG looks awesome. With a little work I'm sure that can be a nice player too as long as the neck's straight.

All Other Guitars
Talk about all other types of guitars. Jazzmasters go here!

cyclones and toronados are shortscale Fender guitars at 24.75".

SG's are normal scale Gibson guitars at 24.75". notice there's not a gibson guitar listed in either of those, so i'd automatically consider an SG the 'other type of guitar.'

Yeah I know that's what's on the forum, I just don't agree with it. I've had guitars besides fenders (old silvertone, truetone, etc) that were 24" scale....I considered those shortscale...why should a brand name set the standard of what a shortscale is? A shortscale bass is 30" or shorter, a shortscale guitar is 24" or shorter, no matter the make. If I made any guitar with a 24.75 scale neck, wouldn't it just be a standard scale? And what if it happened to be styled after a mustang or jaguar or whatever. As far as I'm aware Fender never made a 24.75 guitar before this century anyway, so really the toros and cyclones as well as some of those Squiers are pretty much freaks....or as far as any player or luthier is concerned, a standard scale guitar.

i was pointing that out to new guy. regardless of what you think, it's pretty cut and dry right on the first page of the forum.

i get what you're saying though. it's obviously clear that this is a site who leans quite heavily toward fender shortscale guitars, so i'm inclined to roll widdit.

I stand my ground that shortscale.org has it wrong on the matter of Toronados and Cyclones.

Not a big deal. It's been moved to the right forum.

Anyways, I was playing it a lot yesterday and the strings keep falling out of the bridge. I also cut my hand on the bridge post. Not sure how much longer I'm going to keep this one. I might keep the trem plate and sell the rest.

If it's only the bridge you might want to just see about replacing that, as long as the spacing isn't unique to that guitar.
