Why?

The only modification I've made is to install a SJAG3 in the bridge, but it fed back before that, too. Electronics-wise, the middle switch on the lower plate does nothing at all other than mute all output, which I believe is a mod made by the previous-previous-previous (etc) owner. Or something broke.

Do Jaguars just feedback? Like, constantly?

If it's a 90's MIJ/CIJ the stock pickups aren't wax potted so they squeel like a pig with microphonic feedback. Also, normally the middle switch should control the bridge pickup on/off. The left should be neck, right should be chokey chokey (if you're looking down on the guiter whilst playing).

So no, Jaguars shouldn't usually feedback in the way you're describing, just the MIJ/CIJs.

The bridge pickup should no longer feedback on it's own if it's an SD.

Haven't played it plugged in for a few months actually. I'll give it a whirl later and check it out. I think the rightmost switch now controls the bridge pickups, with the middle having been converted to a killswitch. It's a bit of a mess in there to be completely honest. Not because of me, like.

Remove the claws, problem solved. Its like light and day... however, you may be concerned about the aesthetics.

I cobbled together an old one with new parts and it doesn't feedback. I have all the brass shielding plates--is that why?

It has the plate under the pickguard. Are there any other places it should be shielded? I need to change the strings on it so I'll have a good look inside and out later, I might photograph all the electrics and everything.

You need to be less of a noob. Jags only feedback if you're a noob.

What kind of SDs ? Super hot pickups will feedback at times . Might just want to lower them some . Another thing might be ( not to insult you BTW ) but how close are you sitting to your amp ?
Another thing can be that your amp might be staged too close to an electrical outlet . My Hotrod will either hum or feedback sometimes . I move the amp from the wall and it all stops . Silly but true.

Cover yourself in tinfoil too. Include half a red onion and afterwards make a jus with some red wine. Serve on a bed of mashed turnips and then chuck the lot in the bin.

See if that fixes it.

I used to have a SJAG-2 in the bridge position of a Jaguar. If not paired with the neck pup, it would turn my guitar into a magical flute.

I always suspected it wasn't potted right or potted at all, regardless of SD's claims... Never did get around to fixing it, though.

Make shure there is a good amount of control cavity shielding..Wont hurt to over do it.

i had an sjag3 in the bridge of the blue jag i sold to serfx. those pickups suck ass. they are just as bad as the og's if not worse. don't believe me? ask sloan.
deffinitly try to shield a lil bit, and sell those pups for a set of american pickups.

RF is'nt your problem, the problem is anything loose or gaps in and around the pickup. The first culprit is the pickup cover, they never sit tightly over the bobbin in my experience. When you wax pot pickups you enclose the whole thing to eliminate air pockets. Something that may solve the problem to a degree is adding extra foam under the pickup so that when you tighten the screws it pulls the pup cover down tight and traps the claw tight.

The CIJ i sold Reece had a SJAG-3 in it and i thought it was okay, they feedback just like most single coils with high gain though. Pointing out the obvious (lulz) i found standing at an angle not too close to the amp helped.

What kind of gain settings are you using? Dont forget Fuzz is your friend if you want high gain with Singles.

If you check the Jaguar wiring diagram here you'll be able to put it back to standard. Jaguars are a joy to work on because you can access different sections of the gguitar without totally dismantling everything.

What type of feedback is it?

Musical or very nasty high pitched (microphonic)?

Regarding the Claw, bare in mind they are originally stuck to the bottom of the pickup. If the previous owner has upgraded the pickup its a safe bet they did'nt stick it to the Claw (also check they grounded it back up). Bedding the pickup onto the claw with some clear silicon will eliminate any microphonic feedback caused by the claw, the claw itself is designed to change the magnetic path of the pickup magnets which does not cause feedback.
