New BKP website went live today, with much more information on the pickups, including tone charts, suggested applications and lots of official sound clips. Much much better.
One notable change is the complete revamp of their P90 range. Some interesting things in there.

Dissapointed they don't make any JM pickups.

Not a big enough market for them apparently. They will rewind your old ones to your chosen spec though. Same with Jag pups - I can vouch for those.

I'm not sure if that's the case, I think there is a shortage of boutique JM pickups in the UK - i've had to look at the US but with VAT and customs charges Novaks/Lollars would be way expensive, the only alternative is the SD Antiquity I/II's. I have a set of II's but i'm not totally happy but i'm not sure if I want them re-wound as I don't really know what I want (apart from to be a bit less trebly than they are but with a nice bass sound, a kind of softer distorted sound).

This might sound silly/odd but what i'd really like is something that sounds nice and warm (both distorted and clean) like my Antiquity humbuckers bit still with a nice trebly JM pickup bite and a nice bottom end.

You can say that again - not five minutes after I've bought one, they change everything around. Was going to look into it and see if it's a rebranding or a repurposing of the range.

I'd still give Tim at BKP a shout - drop him an email with where you find the current pups lacking and what gear you play through, what sound you are after and he can definitely let you know if its feasible. Even if you don't go through with it, might be interesting to find out what he says.

I think that a couple are or must be, certainly the more vintage end of the range, which is I assume what you went for in the end (BKP90?). The other end is what interests me - big magnets and big winds - brutalz

Thanks Thom, i'll do that. I would assume that if he can re-wind my pickups to my specs then that would be cheaper than buying new ones which would be good.

Cool - let me know what he says. Rewinds are £32 per pickup, and when I had mine done that included wax potting, but check whether that is included still.

If you go down this route you are prolly better off sending the Jap pups to be rewound rather than the £££ SD's which you can sell on/keep.

That's a good idea but I think I sold them so don't have them anymore.

i got an email from them yesterday saying they relaunched the site. It definitely needed it. Not had chance to look at it yet though

as for other booteek JM pups have you tried the creamery in manchester, Shed pickups, Catwhisker or Wizard pickups?

Heard back from the Creamery guy and he was very helpful. He suggested winding a set using a thinner gauge wire - increasing the output but due to the thinner wire and higher number of winds the pickup would have a warmer tone to it. He also suggested using weaker strength magnets to bring down the perceived 'loudness' so although the pickup would be overwound to create warmth, the higher output that goes with overwound pickups would be tempered somewhat by weaker magnets. He mentioned that using Alnico 2 magnets rather than the usual Alnico 5 would also add that little bit more warmth as they are generally weaker than 5. Once I get some cash together I think i'll order, if anyone is interested in my Antiquity II's then get in touch.
