Very cool. I wonder if that was a factory refin, as I know back then the sunbursts that got screwed up or custom orders ended up being painted over with solids. I absolutely love Mike Oldfield.

remember when 60s strats were considered 'undesirable', and all the collector ponces wanted 50s ones, and 50s ones only? it wasn't that long ago.

70s Fenders could be had for less than the MIM reissues are now when I started playing.

My US strat had a dodgy paint job in the factory and the paint is coming of nicely round the edges to reveal a cool looking GOLD undercoat.

Talk about a wasted life. My guitar teacher in 1973 was connected. New Tele's and Strat's would go for $450 to $550. The teacher would offer me "slightly bunged up early sixties stuff for $275-$325". Fuuuuck, if i'd only known. Oh well, bought a used Bronco (my first electric) out of a pawn shop. Impressionable kids wanted "new" looking stuff. My how times have changed. People pay extra for used looking stuff.
