Got an original finish body for my 69 Maverick. Pics.

Just got done putting it together. Unfortunately it's been routed for humbuckers and at one point had string ferrules added in the back. Eventually I want to remove the ferrules and fill in the holes. I might end up getting a custom pickguard and putting different pickups(Wide Range Humbuckers?) in it since it's been routed anyway. I guess I'm going to refinish the blue body again, probably in Sherwood Green, and slowly piece together a second Maverick.
There is one really strange thing about this body. It's finished in nitro. Fender was supposed to have stopped using nitro before Mavericks came out but this finish is obviously nitro and definitely appears to be 100% original. Cool.

cool! how much did that set you back?
re: the nitro thing, i think they maybe only used poly on the backs of the necks for a while and continued to finish bodies and matching headstocks in nitro (probably until their stocks ran out).

$495. My emotions got the best of me. I NEEDED it. I feel like I overpaid but others keep telling me otherwise. What I spent is right around what vintage Jag and JM bodies go for so I guess it wasn't ridiculous. It's just hard to place a value on them because they're so rare.

i'd have done the same. it looks much nicer than the refinished one you had for some reason. i still haven't heard what these sound like!

So don't you have 2 Mavericks now? (this one and the blue one). Do the Mavericks normally have ferrules?

I don't think he got a new maverick, just a body.

Just one Maverick, two bodies. I bought this one because I wanted an original finish. Ferrules are a result of having previously been owned by a dumb ass.
Thanks Stewart and Willie. I want to have one of my friends help me record a demo of it but I need to solve my microphonic neck pickup issue first.

I'm slightly confused how this thread reads....you're going to refinish and build a second maverick out of this body or the blue one that you swapped?
I don't know if you overpaid or not, but something tells me a parts maverick with an original body would still be worth more than $500

I'd be refinishing the blue body. This one is definitely not getting changed.

Of everyone on the board, I am most jealous of you because of this guitar. I love it.

Darn, I thought you were going to 'classifieds' it.
I think if I ever had a custom guitar made it'd be a Maverick. Really one of the coolest fender models imho. Very, very jealous!
Also, if you don't mind me asking how much/where did you find the blue body maverick.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. If we still had a body builder here I'd send them some tracings so people could make project Mavericks. I think I'm going to give one to one of the builders on offset.

I originally bid on it on ebay and won the auction but it didn't meet the reserve. It resurfaced later in the offset classifieds and I ended up paying about 2k for it. It was all original except the body refinish. The only reason I don't want to sell the blue body is that all of the other parts on the sunburst body are original to it.

Please send me a trace of the maverick. I am about to organize a body tracing thread and that would be amazing, especially since we can buy the hockey stick necks from Warmoth. Mavericks would be way easier to make than XIIs because the Mustang bridge is available as opposed to the XIIs special 12 string bridge. A Maverick project could be really cool and maybe a 24" Version would be amazing!

Sure. I'll let you know as soon as I've traced it and send a copy out to you.
I didn't know Warmoth offered the hockey stick necks. I guess I know where the neck for my other Maverick is probably going to come from.

That's awesome. Thanks.
Here is a link, but they are expensive. You would have to fill the holes unless Warmoth would just drill 6 holes.
Warmoth Hockey necks.
