I've got one. I love it. It's built like a tank and sounds good. It has been my main guitar for 5 or 6 years with regular gigging and abuse. I would maybe recommend new tuners and a roller bridge (if you plan on wangin' the butterknife wang bar) to make it a top notch guitar. Pickups being a preference type of thing I wouldn't tell you one way or the other in terms of replacing them. Mine has the p90s btw. The neck pickup can be a bit muddy. It has a nice chunky neck. I paid $450 for mine new and I see them on ebay in that price range often. Definitely a good guitar at that price, especially if you're after a semi-hollow with a bigsby and p90s. I have pics of it somewhere on here and some youtube vids of it in use posted in the whorehouse.

They are decent . I played a Flamekat one time and liked it . Had 2 mini humbuckers I think . Very rockabilly .

The full-hollow body gives a great percussive, open sound, but it feels a little stubborn because of all the stuff weighing down the relatively small top. The stock PUPs are a little muddy, but not horribly so. The bigsby puts a shit-ton of downpressure on the bridge, so tuning stability is a nightmare - get a good locking-stud roller bridge. It feels like a smaller, faster, less luxurious Gretsch, which is what it was made to be.

You get your money's worth, but some upgrades would take it over the top. I'd still take a Gretsch electromatic hollowbody for the money, but it depends on what works for you.

I definitely agree with this. It's kind of "stiffer" than a Casino somehow.

I hesitated to even make that criticism, but thinking of it in comparison to a full-size Gretsch or Casino it definitely feels less "alive." If you're coming off a Fender or something, you probably wouldn't notice, but if you've played some big rockabilly guitars it becomes more obvious. I think it's just a small, thick, stiff top with a lot of stuff on it. They probably could have improved things by arching the top a bit more and using a bigsby without the tension bar.

But for under $500 used, you're getting a good deal. You have to spend at least $200 more to get a Casino or Gretsch with a bigsby.

It's stiffer because it's not fully hollow.

I had the misfortune of trying a Flamekat and thought it was truly fucking awful, but it was probably more to do with the owner than anything as it felt like it had been set up by a blind dog. But it also felt a bit like a toy. I assume the proper Wild Kat would be better simply because it doesn't look like it was designed for people with a mental age of 8 (flamez!) and it has nice bound edges and everything. I remember seeing one going for dirt cheap a while back and seriously contemplating it.

epiphone did a good job then. the 339 just doesnt look proportional. i really dig the wildcat

I owned a wildkat before (pretty much this one: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/ ... at_001.jpg) and I loved it!!! its the only guitar I ever sold and regret that decision like crazy!!! Such a fun guitar, easy to play and not too crazy expensive.
