necks on the cheap-o?

working on my first mod project/parts guitar, and was wondering if anyone could give any advice as to where/how to find a shortscale neck on the cheapo... body is an old squier bullet, and looking to spend next to nothing, so nothing too vintage. there's ebay, of course, but wondering if there were any other parts dealers on the net that specialized in that sort of thing (ordering most of my parts, pickups from guitar fetish, fyi...). apologize in advance if this is an oft discussed lament among you guys, for i am new to this forum!

If you're using a Squire bullet that is 25.5 inch scale you need to get a conversion neck or it won't intonate worth a nickel. Your best bet finding a conversion neck is a Jagmaster or Duo-Sonic. I think even the vintage modified thinline tele has a conversion neck but it converts 25.5 to 24.75. Warmoth also sells a 25.5 to 24.75 conversion.

ahhh, i had only been looking in the mustang neck area on warmoth - had never explored the strat area... thanks!

And just for clarification . . . when I said you could use a duo neck, it has to be the new classic vibe series.
but whatever you do, don't use a mustang or jaguar neck; it won't work.

yeah, figured as much -- i was just eyeing the stang necks for another day... nice to know about the squier duo's though...

wait a tic... i'm having some confusion on the jagmasters... according to wiki's article (which is sort of confusing), some jagmasters have differently scaled necks... and i quote:
The Jagmaster was brought back into production in 2002, this time made in China and featuring a 25.5" neck (21 frets). In 2005, the 2002 Jagmaster was discontinued, and replaced with the (also Chinese-made) Squier Jagmaster II, which features different visual aesthetics, as well as the old 24" neck (22 frets). (However, by 2007 this had become a 21-fret 24" neck, contrary to the Squier information online, which has yet to be updated.) However, unlike previously, the 2005 Jagmaster II has only two (readily available) color options: black and sunburst. The third finish option, "Silver Sparkle" of the 2002 reissues, is no longer available.
so, from what i can tell here, i'm looking for either a vista series or something made post 2005 that is not "silver sparkle." but not something called a "jagmaster ii" because i've never seen the current models actually called that, right? any handy way to go about double checking to make sure i've got the right neck? serial number codes or measurements, i suppose?
on the other hand, what would you say a fair price is for a jagmaster? i'm currently eyeballing
this one on ebay (with shipping it would be about 220...)

There was a Jagmaster neck on Ebay for 50 bucks earlier, don't know if it's gone already.

You don't want the Vista series, those are true 24 inch scale. You don't want the silver sparkle because it is the 25.5 inch scale. You can the current shortscale version of the guitar.
hotrod posted a thread about all of this and it had great information . . . so I would look for that.
