Squeaky Jaguar Thread #501,899

Before everyone on the forum starts bellowing "YOUR MIJ PICKUPS ARE MICROPHONIC, THEY ARE MICROPHONIC!!!"

A. I have a Wax potted Curtis Novak in the neck. Squealing should be a non-issue with this pickup anyway...
B. I wax potted my MIJ Bridge Pickup.

If it possible this is not due to the pickups? Just a shoddy wiring job by yours truly? It seems the squeal happens only when there is no output coming of the guitar, as I can get normal feedback fine while hitting the strings (as you can see in the video).

Eh? The squeal hurts my ears!

I'm not sure, but I do know one thing: that's real irritating! With this and your modified VD-1, your pep-pep must really hate you.

Try tapping on the claws and see if they make a ringing sound when you tap them.

Also, you are pretty loud and pretty close to the amp. I am not sure it's entirely unavoidable to avoid microphonic feedback in a situation like that.

I'll see who happens from afar, at band practice and report back.

The gents have just spelled it out: gain + amp proximity + single coils when muted = squeal. I've seen well-made Tele pickups do that all the time.

Of course, I was waiting for someone to tell you to pour beer sauce on them.

I'm afraid it does sound sort of microphonic to me, like the pickups are vibrating when that close to the amp with the gain up.

Where does that ladder lead to?

Do you have the metal claws in? Try putting a layer of masking tape between the pickup and the claw to seperate them from contacting.

Maybe it's because you're literally STANDING IN FRONT OF THE FUCKING AMP ?!!! Bad away from that sucker , Bud .

Aye, does sound microphonic a bit. It seemed like it went away when you hit the switch. I'd check the grounds just to rule them out, maybe try shielding the cavity/pickguard?
I'm not sure if it would help your particular case, but its just a suggestion. The info in this thread should put you in the right direction.

Cheers

I'd bet my bottom dollar it's microphonic (which isn't saying much cos I live in England). I can stand that close playing that loud with all my guitars.

The Mustang? I suspect it won't be as bad, as I think it's likely the claws in the Jag pickup -- that's why I was curious about the tap test. You may have to declaw them as aen said.

This could be off a bit but, I have have guitars behave just like that under high gain playing and it was due to a bad ground.
