Are they out there? I emailed Guitar Fetish and requested. Maybe others could do the same? Right now my skills as a guitar player don't justify a huge investment. And really I like the projects as much or more than the playing.
Short of a Mustang body/kit my plan is to stumble into a used Squier Duo Sonic and messing with that. I'd paint it Sonic blue or Dakota red, lipstick pu's and pearl pick guard. Offset or no offset I love those horns and body shape. Jack

Besides a Warmoth body, I am not aware of any Mustang kits out there. Short of building your own body, keep your eyes on eBay and Craigslist.

Guitar fetish will probably never have Mustang bodies or kits.

Your best bet if you arent going with Warmoth, is Guitar Mill. Either that or you will have to pick up an old beat up body on ebay.

EDIT: Just saw that guitar mill no longer shows Mustang bodies on their website. The can probably still make them if you request one though.

I don't know about cheap but there's a couple of guys on Offset (including that Andredoeshair who seem to produce mustang bodies at a rate of knots) and our RobertOG here builds - be worth inquiring about costs.

I've seen the Warmoth, I guess that's not too bad price wise. I know it will add up but if I only get a few things at a time I won't realize the sticker shock.
But you know those cheapie tele and strat bodies and kits GFS has, I've seen that some people have had some decent ones.

Might just be cheaper to buy a re issue or used MIJ.

I was also looking for a mustang/cyclone shaped body, and as it was (still is) my first project I wanted to pay almost nothing and didn't care about the quality.

I decided that a Squire Bronco Bass was the nearest thing. Sure, there are some qualifications:

a) the neck pocket is slightly too wide, as its made for a bass neck of course. Right now I don't care about the gap.
b) the routing is different. I've altered my 'cyclone' inspired design to make use of the differences.
c) it doesn't have cut-away bits.
d) and of course you have to put new holes in for whatever bridge you want.

I think thats it. Stuff you can fix if you want, or not. But I think its the easiest way for getting hold of that shape of body (especially in the UK)

I got one on ebay for £50 and then sold the original neck and bridge for £25 so it was a good deal.

Having said all that I still haven't finished my project. But I'm going to give a big push this Feb and I'll let you know how it goes:

Thanks for reminding me, I've seen a thread or two on here that focused on a bass conversion.

Keep in mind, if it's a Musicmaster or Duosonic, it seems to automatically have less parts value, even if it's pretty much compatible with a Mustang. I've seen Musicmaster necks go for $100 on Ebay, where a similar Mustang neck would have gone for $300.

+1. I just finished my Musicmaster project and the vintage 1972 Musicmaster neck went for $125, though it was in rough shape where as the Mustang necks started in the $200s and up.

I'm very new to these Fender Short scales, so that's the main reason I'm here. I'd keep it all Squier as neither my craftsmanship nor my playing ability are anything to brag about.
