NPD: Fulltone OCD v1.4

brought this of benecol with proceeds from the hotcake.

i've been using a cool cat drive for a few months, fast becoming the pedal of choice. it's an apparent clone of the fulltone, which got me itching to see what the real deal it like. arrived today safe and sound. it's weird seeing one in the flesh, same with my hotcake. you see/hear/read about these hyped-up boutique pedals in mags/videos/forums etc, but then you see a pedal in person and it's like oooo look at that lol.

it's solid pedal, weighs a fair bit so should stand up for many years. sound wise, i'm liking what i've heard so far. nice amount of gain and volume on tap, that varies with the HP/LP switch. mostly importantly, it works well with the DT. doesn't get flubby and muffled like the hotcake did with it. sounds pretty tasty with my strat too. how similar the Cool cat and OCD are i don't know, may do a comparison when i'm off. we'll see how it goes.

My favourite dirt pedal bar none. I absolutely love it. The only things it doesn't seem like it can do it does superbly once you put a dirt in front of it. It's not even that its' the most versatile, it simply is the best I've heard for any of the sounds I want to make with it.

Ok, it won't get every sound you can dream of but it's one of only two pieces of gear I've had where literally every time I use it I find myself thinking 'bloody hell that sounds good', the other being the bassman I sold to Thom.

ok, now we have Dual Terrors, Bullet Cables and now OCDs too..... we have to be related

My Favourite too... the different versions do sound quite different too. The cool cat could quite easily be one of them haha...

I found it's a pedal you'll ticker with a lot but for me it's best doing the mid gain thing, dials straight up... and boosting it.

Gearmandude did a Dano v Fulltone video and to be honest i could'nt hear much difference if any other than the OCD did have more low end.
Fulltone are great pedals though, i love mine but i cant imagine me ever paying new prices for one.

I got mine at a low price from Mike following a 'bro deal' from mickie. While it's true I probably would never have got one had I had to pay the new price, now I have one and know it well enough to love it I would pay the new price for one, no question.

Aye tis a good circuit. Hated my Marshall 6100 though, wherever it was in the chain. I think it needed a buffer after it or something, just sounded bassy and undefined in a horrible way - really weird. Into a Fender amp it's delicious though.

I think it and the DLS are the best two Overdrive circuits out there at the moment for the whole Marshall crunch thing.

nice one rob, i'm sure you are going to love it and if its making your strat sound choice then it might make you change your mind on changing it. it would be good to hear your thoughts and comparisons between it and the CC drive

I'm building two of these once parts come in actually. Had one in a MBM OCD/DLS box but sold it as I didn't get on with the DLS so much, do miss the ocd though. I'll revisit it and maybe make one for myself. Damn good circuit.

Right so today I've been able to spend a good few hours messing around with this. All I can say is that I fully agree with James. It's a fucking stupidly good pedal.
Comparing it side by side with my cool cat, I'd say that the OCD is smoother and more rounded whereas the cool cat was a bit fizzy. In both lp and hp mode, both the Strat and tele sounded great. The Strat sounded fuller and less brittle and my tele almost sounds like I've stuck p90's in it. No muddiness and no excessive high end and works great on a clean channel or dirty channel. I've been using the OCD set to a nice loud rhythm crunch on my clean channel and then stepping to my dirty channel for a boosted lead sound.

So far I'm loving it, we'll see how it goes.

I've been reading some of the Internet posts about the different versions. Some people get into heated debate on which version is the best or which one suits what guitar/amp/setup etc. All I know is I love the one I've tried.
