Stripes/Painting W.I.P.

Got a second hand Squier Strat. Pretty solid, in decent condition, but the colour is very unappealing to me.

Decided to test out stripes on it.... Eek. Still a work in progress. Might get fed up with it, sand it down, and just start over with a fresh colour. For now? Awful-dark-blue with Sublime Green stripes.

Here's the progress so far: (Prepare yourself for horrible iPhone quality pics)
1: Electrical tape probably wasn't the best choice.
2: Dollar store brushes, also likely not the best choice.
3. First coat was horrible.
4. Second coat still not too great.

The third coat turned out a lot better. Still haven't decided what I'll do about the pickguard. I'm thinking either white with black covers, or black with white covers. I have a 1 ply white, and a 3 ply aged white at my disposal currently. I could always just make a new one, though.

Any suggestions?

spray the 1ply white black, use white covers, then we could have matching strats.

Sweet....
Does this blue have a specific name, or should I continue thinking of it as "awful dark blue ish"?

I like the blackguard with white, but, not sure how it would look on mine with the green stripes. Opinions?

Hahahahah. Yes, yes it is. Enamel model paint. It's all I could find, and at a damn good price. It's holding up really well, too. Doesn't even chip.... My cat knocked something onto it and not even a scratch.

Lots of options with that stuff, too. Goes on really smooth.

It's not put together yet, as I'm thinking of switching out the pickups, and there's a problem with the wiring to one of the pots.
Looks lopsided due to bad camera angle and the fact that nothing is actually screwed on. It's pretty much just sitting there.... (the bridge/stripes line up perfectly when put together properly)

Also, took a while to get them to fit right, but I got the black pickup covers on. This is just temporary though.... Definitely going to look better once I get a black pickguard. This 1 ply white looks like shit.
Gotta find some snazzy knobs, too....

I think the white with black covers and knobs look good.

squier calls that color "metallic blue". it's almost purple compared to lake placid blue.

Metallic blue? That's.... Kind of bland. Hmm. And yeah, it looks sort of purple-ish in the sunlight.
As for the white with black, I don't have any spare black knobs. The music stores in my city don't have the ones I'm looking for in stock, and I'd need to make an order of around 20 packs of them to get them to order them in. Not going to happen....

Found some generic black knobs. Tried white on black, didn't actually like it very much. Sticking with black on white.
Problem, though.... I no longer have a solder iron. Need one for the wiring.... Is there any alternatives to soldering? Probably not, eh....

sadly not.. at least none that are effective

just head down and pick one up at the dollar store, it will be crap, but it will work.
