My new MustGwar

Post by Lucamo »

So, I got the Mustang with the Jag tremolo...

And I am a newb to guitars... like putting them together, so I just strung it... don't laugh but I had issues... I broke a string.
And. The strings seem to be sitting in odd spots in the bridge saddles...

Is that ok?

IT appears that the strings are going straight from the tail under the buzzstop and onto the bridge in a straight line, but the strings are not resting on the centre of each saddle.

I'm about to take pictures to show. But is that normal?

it's fine that they're not center on the saddle.

as long as you get the spacing even and the guitar spacing on the fretboard is even, you're fine.

The string spacing is not proper... at all. FUCK
Pictars.

What about if the string changes directions after the buzzstop?

they should be pretty even . . . but really, the only string spacing that matters is on the fretboard.

the saddles have a bunch of little grooves, put the string in the groove you want it in that matches up with your pole pieces on the pickups and gives you the same string spacing across the neck.

Thank yoy friend. I am new to this and therefore slow,

Robroes are blocking the polepeices so I will go for even spacing!

if i can be honest, i think the bridge on that guitar is a little off of center. don't get me wrong, it works, but i'm thinking those strings should be centered between the height screws.

i didn't have a mustang bridge on hand when MUSTGUAR was in my possession, but i'd be willing to guess that it wouldn't sit right. maybe it's the buzz stop? i fucking hate those thangs.

A mustang bridge is a terrible idea if the bridge is off centre or otherwise not right for the string spacing. The jag/jazz bridge is actually preferable here as it has a choice of grooves to give better string spacing.

i don't think it would work, and you can kind of see in that pic that LUC posted where the pickguard line doesn't match the bridge.

Yep it is abit off centre.

Due to this, is there any issue with the strings being not in a straight line from the end of trem to the bridge?
Whats wrong with buzzstops?

Makes it look like a chromey mess I like.

i'm just not a fan of them
i find the look rather silly, and it prevents me from playing around with tings and twangs..

mostly i just think they look silly

i dunno i started playing 12 - 52s on everything shortscale, and i honestly don't even know what a buzzstop would do,

Is the neck bolted on straight?

There is a little play in necks - loosen the strings A LOT - just enough tension to keep on tuners - then loosen the neck bolts a little - just enough to move the neck - sometimes a little neck angle adustment side to side is all it takes to get the strings to line up the way they should.

It's a piece of cake - I had to do it on a straight from the factory Fender 62 AVRI Stratocaster - the neck had shifted/angled in shipping and it threw everything off. A little tweaking and everything lined up perfectly.

a mustang would enforce the spacing if its only slightly off center, anything more than slightly means stop fiddling and take it to someone who can right the neck or body.
