Help me figure this malarkey out.

Painting? Routing? Set-up tips? Or just straight-up making a guitar from scratch? Post here, and post pics!

Help me figure this malarkey out.

Post by ekwatts »

Okay, so I'm probably going with just a bog-standard 3-way switch for my Nu-Sonic, but I actually found a few different rotary switches that may work, but I've no idea. Basically, I want a rotary switch just because I like the idea of it, so it doesn't need anything fancy, but when I had a quick look all I could find were 5 or 6-position switches. I've found some three-way ones, but I'm not sure how the switching works. My electronics knowledge is bunk, so I have no idea what the "poles" are or anything, but here's two of them:

See, the first one is chunky and just has some tags. I can deal with that. The second one looks smaller but has a whole load of connections which I don't really understand. Help me?

I have never messed with a rotary switch, so hopefully someone with more knowledge comes a long.

But the three way switch will have 4 prongs and would probably (you'd want to check it on an ohm meter) select two prongs at a time. so, prong 1&2. 2&3. and 3&4. If that's the case, you'd probably just want to jump the 2&3 prong together, add the leads to 1&4. then take a connection from 2&3 to the middle prong on a volume pot.

err, on second thought, that may not work.
