The Update:
So, adaminsane gave me this Tele body being a proper gent. The idea is to build a Telebastard after seeing one on the BCR forum and being impressed with the Esquier.
The body looks battered which is great and i've started to gather parts for this. However, browsing necks yesterday did'nt throw much up other than over priced licensed replacements and far eastern firewood.

The Question:
Today i called in the local Music Shop and to my amazement they had a new MIJ Strat neck from the Fernandes factory. Thing is it's unfinished.
I've dressed the fret edges and installed a graphite nut but i'm not sure what finish to go for?

Not too bothered about high gloss, i'm more interested in a satin finish but i dont want lacquer to come off if its going on: like sticking to guitar hangers and stuff. I might just go for Danish Oil like on the V.
What do youse guys use/think?

In case you are interested in this beautifully crafted project here's were we are at right now..

Oil FTW then.
I'm gonna see if it raises the grain and smooth back accordingly.

Thanks guyz 8)

i'm not sure how fran's fits, but for mine that is sort of coming along slowly (free tele body from astro), the strat neck fit nicely, and the screw holes even line up.

the only problem is that it looks goofy with a tele pg. andrewdoeshair will be cutting a white esquire guard for mine, with a strat neck pocket curve to fit the neck.

It fits reasonably well, i thought it would be tight but it is'nt.

Yeah im considering another Esquire guard, neck pups are for Blooze Lawyers.

Aw, cooooool.

Reminds me of James Burton's '60s Shindog tele, also red with strat neck.

A penetrating oil like danish oil is a good base. It will penetrate the wood and then set up making it harder and more resistant to dings and such. YOu can apply several coats and then let it set for a couple of days. Since it is oil, it should not mess with the grain too much, if at all. But you can give it a quick hit with 800 grit or 000 steel wool. Then, If you like you can get a can of spray lacquer and give it a bunch of really thin coats every 20 minutes or so. Give a quick fine grit buffing every 3 or 4 coats.

Haha, that's cool Paul_ :D

Benecol, neck pups are for MUSICMASTERS.

Cheers Cur, i've lacquered bodies before but never been impressed with the end product. I'm on the second coat of Danish Oil now, gonna inspect it tomorrow and .0000 wire wool it back if need be then add a couple more coats.

Fourth coat of Danish Oil has just gone on. The grain is beginning to sparkle now, looks nice. I gave it a light sanding with P1000 and it feels like silk 8)

Just waiting on a pickup for this now.
Everything has gone together quite well, just two concerns: the pilot holes for the ashtray may be off slightly and i cant decide if it looks a bit off angle. Easily repairable though. Secondly the machine heads are cheapo's si i'll see how they hold up.

This is how its looking....
