Any Peavey Valve King owners?

A friend is selling a 50w 1x12 Combo quite cheap but i'm not impressed with the youtube videos of this amp compared to say a similar priced second hand Orange Tiny Terror.
Any love for these? Experiences?

Thanks.

There's a thread on UG about it.

No seriously, HC and/or UG have Valve King owner club threads which are helpful and have tips and mods to make it better. I was looking into getting one myself though no direct experience. Lots of people like them.

I think you should get another Sound City for £120, cut the bright cap and get some better tubes. You know it makes sense.

I owned one of these and sold it for £150 last year. They're ok, but nothing special. There are whole threads devoted to mods for them, an I thinks it a popular candidate for a speaker swap. The clean channel is nothing special, but the lead channel is rather pleasant in a metal shred kinda way. There are better, more versatile combos out there so unless it's really cheap give it a miss.

My buddy has one I played on last week.... I would not buy it unless it was pretty much free..... The Classic 30 blows it aways as far as Peavey goes....

I have owned a TT and currently have a DT and that is deffinately way better all around.... but if u need the watts u need the watts....

For the money there are much better options than the ValveKing..

Yep, they're alright, but not great. In a straight comparison with the Classic 30 they have more options, come in higher wattage ratings etc. But they do spiky metal alright, some other sounds pretty well, but the Classic 30 is still the better amp. Get one in black tweed and maybe an extension cab.

Theyre ok, the clean sound is alright and the drive sound is VERY hi-gain - not my thing but its an alright sound in general.

Overall you're likely to get something nicer but they're alright for the money.

Haha, looks/sonds like a scene from hell 8)

Well, its still up for sale but unless another one of my projects is ongoing other than Master Charger there is'nt much point me buying another Amp. So i'll see how things unfold.
