I was playing around with my set up and was wondering how many people actually use their effects loops on their amps and if so is it just for modulation/delay/reverbs?

I've got a parallel effects loop so you always get half dry, half wet, and it's rubbish. Nothing really works right with things that would normally go in it i.e. reverb, delay, phase, flanger, trem etc. I think a series loop would be much better for the task.

I've thought about modding it but don't know where to start and there's no schematic on interwebz

I haven't used a loop on my amp for a loooooooooooooooooong time. Can't be fussed with the extra cables and splitting my pedalboard. Have just got a set up that works up front.

i was wondering whether the effort was worth it or not really.

It's fine if you're Radiohead or whatever - otherwise you generally look like a ponce.

Or if you use amp distortion.

I use Amp Distortion - still could never be rigged with a loop.

If I'm using amp distortion I tend not to be using pedals - or I'll be just using wah. Otherwise I'll run my pedals straight in my amp which is running fairly clean with just a bit of 'bark'.

My son uses his Echo Park in the effects loop of his TSL.
I use this custom piece of equipment in the FX loop of my Marshall JTM 60. Hand-made to my specification by a qualified electronic engineer with over 40 years experience from a selected combination of materials, it improves signal strength and cuts down on distortion. It's absolutely critical to my sound: I never gig without it.

I use the loop on my V55 but not gigging at the moment so the extra cables are not a problem. I stick my modulation, delay and reverb FX through it. Don't know if it makes that much of a difference but the amp has an FX loop so why not use it??!!! Not sure I would bother in a live situation, but then I would probably slim down the number of pedals on my board for a gig anyway.
