Now that I finished my Musicmaster and Tele projects, I thought it time to build a Mustang.
I am planning on building two Mustangs: One from scratch and the other from parts. I bought the Two-face 70's Mustang body from Joey and I plan on using it first as a model to help me do the contours and arm rest for the first Mustang. Once I get the first body built, I will finish out both guitars. I am hoping to find some parts at the Dallas Guitar show. I have more tools this time so hopefully progress will be quicker this time.
Mustang #1: This mustang will be a from scratch build. I am using a 1965 template and I am adding contours and arm rest to it. I plan on painting the body with a matching headstock and maybe a competition strip if all goes well. I plan on using 65 RI pups and traditional mustang wiring and switches. Here are some color ideas:
Mustang #2: Also know as the Two-Face/Backburst stang. I am leaving the body as Joey left it and plan on finishing it out as is. I will try to find more used parts for this. I am thinking either white, mint, or pearloid pickguard with a normal maple headstock. It's such a unique body I wouldn't dare change it. The body should be here any day now. Here are more pics and ideas:

One thing to bear in mind, if you're planning on printing your own template.
I'm 99.9% sure now that the dimensions/scaling on the pdf is slightly off.
Luckily you'll have an actual Mustang to check your dimensions.
I compared the template to my Bronco, that's where I first got suspicious.
I did suspect the cheap aftermarket pickguard I bought. Though a genuine Bronco pickguard has the exact same shape in the lower part of the body.
Look at the lower edge compared to the cutaway.
Notice that I didn't cut the trem route, I had doubts before I even cut any wood.
I'm going to make a Mustang body, but not before totally re-doing the templates.

I love both of those. I really wanted Fran's CAR Mustang (when Lorez owned it) but I couldn't justify shipping.

I plan to check my template against the body when it comes in, though the template is a 60's Mustang and the body is a 70's Mustang which is slightly different. I just have to take into account the larger upper horn on the 70's Mustang and not try to match it up exactly.

I fixed the earlier mockups so I have two different Surf Green guitars with black or white pickguards. I also meant to add
Seafoam green to the list. I am gathering more images as I research my color options:
Seafoam Green

Surf Green

I assume you mean putting white pickguards on both guitars. Mint could look good on the black one. I always liked pearl on certain models, like the Jag-stangs, especially if they are aged a bit. I like the mockups with the black pickguards, but I am not a huge fan of black pickguards in general though the look good against surf/seafoam green and shell pink.

I received the Two face Mustang body in the mail today. Joey did a Fantastic job. I could see my reflection in the front. Cheers for the good job and good deal. I plan on checking my template against to body and make any necessary adjustments. I need to start looking for control plates, pickguards, bridges, and Mustang Trems.

				do not like.
I think pastel colors almost always look best with white.

I got my tailpiece and control plate from Angela Instruments. They were the best deal I could find for a tailpiece with a bar. Plus the control plate was super cheap, although I had to drill out the super small pot holes. They have bridges and thimbles too.

Guitar Parts Resource had pretty much everything else I needed.

Let me clarify a bit. I was thinking
white for the 1st Mustang which is looking like
Shell Pink or
Sea Foam Green/Surf Green at the moment and doing the
Pearl on the Black Mustang. I agree pastels and white look good together.

Thanks for the links. I often find one dealer has good prices on certain parts and other dealers on the other parts. I will also check Allparts as well. I want to stay with American parts as much as I can on both, but especially the 77 Mustang body.
Can someone just give me some general advice on Mustang parts concerning American Vintage /spec vs. MIJ Reissue Mustangs? Are they at all interchangeable?

First shots of the Two Face Mustang body and my templates. Definitely off in the placement of the control cavity. I need to cut less out for the cavity. Overall lined up okay. I will probably buy the control plates and pickguards before I route the cavities.

I've always loved the burst on that stang. So much red . . .
I don't like pearl on any guitar but if there is one guitar I can stand it on, it is a black mustang.

I like the red with the black guard, and I like the green with the white guard. I went with SFG for my '75 Musicmaster to Duo Sonic conversion project. I'm a big fan of Sea Foam Green.
The CAR Compstang with the matching headstock looks fantastic too IMO. That was the original color of my '71, but it was stripped when I got it and I chickened out on trying to do a CAR finish and went with Fiesta Red.
