No Hope - rewire

so i've been getting a very weak signal out of my No Hope bass for a while.. i was thinking of swapping the pickups, but figured maybe i should hold off on that a little bit..

without looking at any specks at all i purchased new volume pots ... 500k instead of 250k
what are your thoughts on this?

the tone pot feels good so i'll keep the 250k in there..
and it appears that the bridge ground isn't hooked up anymore (probably explains my grounding issue ;) )

i'll get some pics up soon, and since i have my bass rig here i'll probably post an demo.

(hint its this bass)

500k pots are fine with bass pickups, it gives you some extra bite on hand and you always have a tone pot to bring that down a bit. I cat recommend a treble bleed circuit on the volume pots enough, especially on bass.
Damn, I need to rewire my seafoam bass.

heres the sciencebullshit explaination that google popped up with, didn't read it myself but i imagine itll be a good read for a nerdy folk such as myself
http://www.blueskillet.com/Treble%20Ble ... 20Mods.htm

basically a 100k resister and a 500-1000pf cap in parallel
you loose highs when you lower the volume knob, this compensates/neutralizes it depending on what values you use.

minor setback..
the new pots i bought at a 1/4 shaft.. the holes are 10mm..
i don't have a drill bit big enough to fix this issue..

so i suppose i'll just go buy some smaller split shaft 500k pots

i totally didn't record any before samples though.. so.. you have nothing to compare it against, aside form some Serf X stuff where it is hidden behind distortion.

Sounds good. Did you keep the stock cap on the tone pot?

If your gonna wire in a treble bleed. You may as well toss in that "anti-shock" mod on the ground wire. It another simple mod, that can spare you an electric shock... say you are holding your guitar and you grab a microphone (or someone else instrutment) that is reverse polarity, you get zapped.

And if you do all that! You may as well shield the shit outta that bass. It never ends...

yeah i kept the 250k tone pot
opted not to do the tone bleed, due to not having a close place to source the parts for it.
an anti-shock mod might be a good plan for most of my guitars...

but yeah it never ends.
