Vox tempest XII (NGD)

A local shop has a 60's Vox Tempest XII (made in Italy) in sunburst with OHSC, has working mute and bigsby style tremolo. It's in good shape, the way I usually like old guitars...it's still pretty but there's enough scratches, nicks, and dents for me not to worry about babying it. All the electronics work and the neck and frets are in top shape. Plays great, I'm thinking of buying it.
It's $699. Quick answer, is this a good or bad deal? I can't seem to find any on Gbase or Ebay so I have no frame of reference to these things' actual worth. There's one on the bay right now for $1150 but it looks like he hasn't been able to sell it for that, having no pictures doesn't help I'm sure

(small picture so here's a larger one of the 6 string model:

I couldn't wait around for 4 hours for a reply to this thread so I went out and got it. Traded my Gibson LP Studio for it.

Here it is in its OHSC...perfectly molded to the guitar, it's in very nice shape. The celluloid pickguard has shrunk and is warped due to probably never having been removed.

Rascal posing with the case goodies: Old capo, ugly strap, and a package of D'Addario acoustic 12-string phosphor bronze strings from 1986.

Shitting cockery, that's nice, and in tip-top condition too by the looks of it.
Always wanted a 12 string electric and it's an indisputable fact that the coolest are made by Burns, Dano and Vox.

Still haven't played a Burns XII, that I can remember anyway. I still have my Dano DC-12, but that will probably end up in the classifieds soon due to me not needing two 12 strings. I've been thinking of getting a higher end 12 for a while....going back and forth between a Fender Coronado XII, Rickenbacker, or Vox. Glad I ended up with what I did....nevermind the fact that it's practically the only 12 string with a tremolo, when it comes down to it Vox guitars are responsible for most of my favorite 12 string sounds ever.
As far as the condition goes it looks better than it is in some photos...if you open the hidden photobomb under the embedded picture, the photo on top of it in the case tells the story...it has its share of scratches and dents. Also the pickguard is quite warped from being celluloid and shrinking from its original form. But it is pristine where it counts. The neck is flawless....no dings in the back of the neck, no dead spots (a few of the frets had pulled up over time and were hammered back down by the shop before I bought it.), no cracks in the binding etc. Also the electronics all work 100% and aren't scratchy.

I just hadn't been playing the Gibson... It was sitting in the case with a broken string for over a year. I bought it at a time when I thought a "versatile" collection was the best one. It was also my first higher priced guitar which I bought with my employee discount @ guitar center new. But as you said, replaceable...don't see affordable vintage vox xiis everyday on the other hand
I'll do a YouTube demo soon, maybe later today

Congrats! I heard that those are very nice twelve strings. Is the body the same as the the VOX Spitfire?

I'm pretty sure they are....that one looks identical to mine aside from the 6 missing strings and missing bridge cover
They also made a two pickup version of the Spitfire called the Hurricane....
