Am i right in thinking this is one of the last original mustangs produced from '81?

Yeah, good luck finding another international color Mustang. First one I've seen anyway. 8)

That thing sure is purrrdy! Not the best intl. color, but it's a unique selling point that makes this guitar rare.

very rare, but only a collector would pay that for it. it probably plays like a bookcase.

The tastemakers over at CBS really knew how to kill the cool factor from Leo's original designs.
Black strat knobs on a stang?

It looks minty. not bad for a grand but i'd save the dough for a 60's or early 70's stang.

i had one of those. but it was transparent wine red. and HEAVEY!!!

i've also seen a maui blue mustang BASS, all original.
it's amazing how many of those international color fenders were sent to mexico.

I've never seen an international colour mustang before. They're unlikely to hold much value, even with collectors, but there's no doubt they're very rare in Fender terms.

The maui blue is very nice indeed - so would you have to special order these from fender or were they just produced in limited quantities?

The colors look like jelly belly beans

I like both colours tbh,
Agree with the comment on the tele weight too - that's the main reason why i got rid of my squier tele custom - it was a real heavy slab that was just too uncomfortable.

This is a tough one as it's definitely very close to black. How different it is is tough to say now because maybe the guitars are just sold as black and it's hard to find any examples.[/align][/spoil]
right... i had forgotten my '81 jazz bass. it's black with a white guard. i guess it's part of the Int'l Color series too, somehow.
but well, yes, it's black.
