Hi all

I'm retired and in the UK. In about 1966 I was the proud owner of a Rickenbacker 1996 but I sold it when I ran out of money in Spain the following year. These days I want to buy something to play with as much as play on, retirement fun you might say. I neither have the talent to justify the investment nor the money to just go and buy one anyway. (Well I suppose that last bit is a lie, but still it's not really justified).

I have bought a mini strat which I think is about 22", but still more than the 20.75" of the Rick. Are there any short scale guitars in production at that 20.75 length with narrow necks?

The mix of aching older fingers and small hands has made a short scale even more significant now than it was 44 years ago!

Fender made a 22.5 neck pre 1965. I bet they would be short enough. You may find a bargain on one because they are too short for most people. Same with an old Ric. I had a Ric 950 and I kept getting lost in the frets because the neck wasn't where I expected it to be.

This says it's 20.75 scale.

holy toledo, how do you get on with that thing? I had a mustang with an A neck, which was a nightmare for open chording and my medium biggish hands. A Ric would be a nice retirement present though, wouldn't it? mmmm...retirement.

Yes it would, but the RV and the Boat and my winters in Spain keep me permanently poor. It's a hard life! Actually the only problem with being retired AND divorced is being an old git, only Grannies want to sleep with me; and who looks at Grannies unless you've been living with one for 40 years.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll check out the mini bullet thingy today.

BTW I also have a J45 and a Harmony H77, the latter is impossible for me to "Chuck Berry" on, my little finger just can't get there.

Hmm, I've sent them an enquiry, thanks for the link. However I'll give good odds that this is a typo and the actual length will be 22.75 same as all the other Squier Mini strats.

They've confirmed to me that it's an error in the description. I've seen it before in other products, when preparing a web page it's SOOOO much easier to use someone else's than type it all over again, and if they got it wrong it becomes viral, (to use a trendy word - God but I'm so hip!).

Wonder what "a full sized neck" means? Can't find a full spec but I'll keep an eye open for one to play with.

Stagg makes a small strat. I have one that I use when I go on family trip. You can pick them up for around $70. http://www.staggmusic.com/products/prod ... &oneid=404

off the top of my head it is around 19" scale
