Took everything apart, the body is in ROUGH shape so water off a ducks ass if I mess it up.
I've already hit it up with some 600 grit sandpaper just so the new paint will have something to stick to. I intend for it to flake and ship easily an show the blue through. I may even sand some of the arm contour down to the wood just so when/if it does it'll have a nice wood>sonic blue>PANK blend

It'll keep the Mint pickguard and then black robroes and switches and bronco knobs of course!
Valspar from Lowe's. 3 bucks a can. There were only two shades of pink, this one and a pepto type pink. Clear is Valspar lacquer hi-gloss. I don't think the finish on there is nitro, even if so it was done poorly
So I assume this means you are going to fix her up as opposed to sell her? Good for you. Some new paint and pickups and she will be good as new. Was this Aen inspired color?
I still can't decide if I will go Shell pink or Seafom on my next one.

That looks awesome. How does this kind of paint compare to Reranch? Now I want a Pank stang. Love the Bronco knobs. I bet once you get a proper wire job and some good pickups she will be band worthy soon enough.
When working with cheap paint you have to do what you can to make up for it. Let it soak in warm water so the paint flows a little better and also keeps it from drying out too quickly. I was spraying outside with a bit of wind now and again so I couldn't stick to the 8-10 inches i normally would, more like 4-6. Damn paint was drying before it hit the body so it was splatty at first. Also it is quick drying paint, using Reranch is a totally different process.
The guitar is a beater so I didn't really want to put a $50 finish on a guitar I am going to beat to hell anyways. $8 is fine enough for me and I'm pretty happy how it turned out.
Would it have turned out nicer if it was Reranch? Of course. This isn't due to a nitro vs poly war, more so because I wouldn't rush a nitro finish because of its cost and it is a lot easier to mess up.
My main problem was the switches, which i will lower, and the strings were still popping off the bridge. It'll get 12s next time and maybe I will file the jag bridge saddles.
Personally, I would just do enough to match it up with the neck. If the neck wear is minimal and looks as though it has been taken care of then the body would be in similar condition. I wouldn't want a shiny new body and a worn neck. I used a little tinted amber then fine steel wool to buff out my '75 Musicmaster just to give it a duller, aged look that would match the wear of the rest of its parts and I was really pleased with it.
