Then I removed the black with Goof Off, sanded the back and had to refinish (mistakes were made). The previous owner painted over the binding! And put that stupid lightning bolt on it, at least he didn't scuff sand the original finish. Had I known about Goof Off I wouldn't have sanded the back. I left the PG off for a while,(it's ugly), then I put it back on as I thought the guitar looked too aerodyne.

I'm still getting used to the PG but it's not so aerodyne

I have mixed feelings about the PG, but as boredom allows it can come off or go back on again. Also new GFS Retrotrons, I was going for a Billy Zoom/Gretsch look. Plays as well as I do and it stays in tune!

All new wiring, pots etc, along with the pickups. I fucked that too, wiring bridge to rhythm, neck to treble. That's just two wires though. Can you tell I 'm a complete NOOB?

Thanks, I used Stew Mac mahogany to match the neck which thankfully the previous owner did not paint. Nitro, this is first time for me, is a medium where small mistakes quickly grow into much larger ones. And the switch, it just got twisted when I put the poker chip on, it just took a few minutes to ponder that.

I personally think les pauls look way better with the pickguard than without.

I'm largely anti-pickguard on LPs, useless and clutters up the place.

love the refin and I think pickguard looks cool. i only like no pickguard if there is some nice wood to be seen on a burst

My Aerodyne Jazz Bass and Telecaster.

It's a Japanese Deluxe series including a Jazz and Precision Bass, Telecaster and Stratocaster. They have a radiused carved top and some other nice cosmetic features. The original formats (like mine) have no pickguard, the current ones do.

i don't understand the strat jack on the jazz bass, pretty much kills it for me.

This is the second run of the Aerodyne Jazz Bass, the originals looked the same, but had the standard top Jazz jack. It looks just fine.

i'm sure it would grow on me ..

Anyway, I agree with you concerning ugly cream trim on a silver sparkle finish. I'm guessing you could probably approach more of a Gretsch-type cool with a clear guard backsprayed with silver Krylon, but those pickup rings will still be rather unsightly and could use a set of black or chrome replacements.


Of course you could go all the way with some TV Jones English Mount humbucker rings, but would need a p'up switch out and would be approaching the price of another guitar!

Aerodyne to me means featureless guitars with no ornamentation. The pick guard is growing on me. It does look like a big white nose, but all that cream just goes with the binding. I tried some chrome rings but it was way too much chrome . I'm stuck with cream but that's ok, this is how it was meant to look. And I can remove it.

Have you considered black rings? Could work.

Now you have me wondering, black rings, black PG, might be classy.

Big white nose is gone, I just could not stand it any longer. I left the switch ring for some ornamentation. Man I hate Les Paul pickguards.
