I’m looking to buy a loop pedal for playing live, as my band (if you can call us a band my wife plays drums and sings and I play the guitar) have been running some synths and stuff from a lap top. I’m trying to ditch the laptop and bulk the sound out by using a loop pedal to layer some guitar. I’ve been looking at the Boss rc-2 and it looks the part however, I know absolutely nowt about loopers so any help would be appreciated.

I have an RC-2 and would recommend it. RC-3 looks even better. Get a non-latching footswitch for it so you can easily do tap tempo for live stuff.

Yeah, I like my RC2 a lot... I would vouch for that.
I would consider the XL versions too. By the time you've spent another few £s on a switch it's almost worth paying the extra having it all built into one. More features and user friendly especially in a live setting... and you can layer vocals etc also.
I'm not sure the Boss can be beaten really.

i have a looper on my EHX SMMwH but its a bit clunky and have been looking at other choices. Given the recent Boss offer I thought about a RC-3. I would like more control over the loops though and the Boss RC-50 looks impressive

I think the Digitech Jamman is the only thing that comes close to the RC-2/3 so I'd five that a read. I think I remember the RC-2 looking better, though.

Jamman or an M9. The Jamman is imo the best stompbox type looper, and the looper on the m9/13 is also damn good. Considering what you would pay for a compact looper, look into the m9 and you'll get a LOT more than just a great looper.

Mine has been less bitchin', more glitchin' but I still love it. I need to call Boss on Monday to see if they'll repair/replace it. Still works, but it's unreliable. Damn first-gen RC-2.
I saw that they came out with an RC-3, looks spiffy!

Just bought an RC-3!
Tried the dual pedal version but was more than I needed.
Don't - Very fun but imho running beats and full performance layers all through yer guitar amp and single speaker is like listening to your iPod through a guitar amp. (not good)
Don't - be an 1-man-band. You'll never be like that really cool and famous loop solo performer ... nuff said.
Do - load single shot samples of Macho Man saying "Oh Yeah!" to trigger at the end of your solos.
Do - load in tambourine and maracas loops to practice noodling over.
Do - load the closing speech from The Road Warrior to trigger throughout your solo.
Do - have a metallic red pedal at the end of your board.

I know several people who try and do this kind of stuff with much less success. I'll admit to the same

Solo or stereo? What would make you choose the jamman over the boss rc 3.

I favour the Jamman Stereo. Mainly because the RC20 was VERY limited where as the Jamman had all of the features that the current Boss loopers have now like USB connection and SD storage.

I don't suppose you've done an demo of your jamman.

Don't own one personally, logged a few hours on one though. Friend plays some church shows and at home has a full on stereo rig for ambient stuff and its awesome to be able to loop in stereo. I don't even think the M13 can do that...

I too am looking for a looper and came across the boomerang III. Pricey but seems very cool.

After a scout about t’internet and a visit to my local rip off guitar shops. I have ordered the jamman solo looper; my thinking was that I liked it and the jamman stereo more than the others I tested rc-2, rc-3, headrush. I don’t need the stereo option so I decide that if I need the extra switches ala the stereo I can buy the extra foot switch and it’s still works out cheaper. Should get it in a few days.
Cheers for the suggestion Haze.

Deciding on the best option can be difficult. Glad you've made a decision. Enjoy.

Is there any other difference between the rc2 and the jamman solo except for the usb and memory card support?
I bought an rc2 because it was the cheapest lopper i could find. I don't like havig to press down twice to spot or the fact that i can't delete an overdub when it's in stop mode. I'm was thinking about doing this mode to solve those problems
But i don't know how practically i would be to use those little switches, so i'm might just get a little footswitch.
