Stopped by Guitar Center to pick up some heavy strangs, ended up with a set of D'Addario EXL110-7s. .010, .013, .017, .026, .036, .046, .059. I was hoping for a .65 on the 7th but that was the thickest they had. I gots the 60s Custom Tele tuned to Drop B its wiiiickeddd

But I digress...

Bass room, heres a new Squier Jazz Bass with a maple cap neck and block and binding. The neck has zero finish so it feels shit, and the binding is cheap and done poorly BUT it looks cool for $300.

They had just about every new Jaguar Bass, the single humbucking ones actually sound good, they are really solid basses for $300

Then thers the Musicmans, as much as I hate gold hardware, especially on white, I think these look amazing. Kind of the white falcon vibe.

Heres a Studio Les Paul with a nice top. They skipped the grain filler and the actual body is 5 pieces. Why does gibson make potentially awesome guitars that I might actually like, but then they cut themselves short. Sure, its made in USA, but my Chinese Squiers and Japanese Fender are miles above in fit, finish, and playability.

Got home and changed the pickguards on my teles back and found a nice crack between the neck joint and the pickup route of my 50s tele. Must have happened when it dropped it a while back.

and a hairline crack that looks to be just the finish on the other side.

can't wait until those give out!

I was on Denmark Street and saw some of the those Squier Jaguar basses, they looked cool but the red one had black headstock which just looked a bit weird.

Not this again, but that Squier neck is definitely finished. Squier does not have any unfinished necks.

Is it bad that I kind of like necks without finish?

I'm assuming my bronco bass has the same 'unfinished' neck. I like it.

I think they feel like a satin finish, unfinished necks definitely feel different. They also look like dirt in a couple of years:

Yeah, most lower end Squiers have a non-tinted satin poly finish. It's my favorite kind of neck finish, for sure.

The '77 squier jazz really impressed me a lot when I played one! I got a chance to play the $199 humbucker jag bass but the amp I was playing through had a defective active pad, so it kept going back and forth from having the -15db engaged to sounding like it was going to blow the speaker cab, so I only got to play it for about 30 seconds total. It felt really nice though, I would like to play one through an amp with a properly working active pad.

Nobody would put out an unfinished neck because of warranty issues
