I DID AN RIFF!

I wrote this song with my friend Mark. I wrote nearly every part of it! No lyrics yet, I'm still not done writing them... but this is MY RIFFZ! It's noisy as fuck! I LOVE IT! It's very imperfect, but this is the first song that is from top to bottom MINE... even MakeWay's songs were written by the bassist except for the vocals.

So here it is, pre-vocals because I'm just so excited I had to share... I'll post again when the vocals are done.

I present... Smoke Eater

Awesome!
only small gripe would be that the drums sound choked.
Lyrics should be about punching dragons in the face!

Smoke Eater

Clutching soft pale skin
stop and breathe it in
tastes of supple sin
she's a
Smoke Eater

Feeding on disease
falling on her knees
dying in her dreams
she's a
Smoke Eater

Paint a picture
Do no harm
A hundred lies
Will let her
Down

Fading shadow man
reach with trusting hands
burning wasted sands
she's a
Smoke Eater

Betraying his faith
cross an ashen face
traded for embrace
she's a
Smoke Eater

Naked winter
Do no harm
A hundred lives
Still let her
Down

Making caustic prayers
exhale the blackened air
pocket stolen cares
she's a
Smoke Eater

Born of all your fears
bleed the slaughtered deer
choke her on your tears
She's a
Smoke Eater

Paint a picture
Do no harm
A hundred lies
Will let her
...
...
...
fuck it...

that's alot of lyrics. well, not really. my songs usually have a 4 line verse and a 1 or 2 line chorus.
anyhoo, i TOTES dig the riffs. With some big fat drums, it would be perfect.

rough mix with vocals. I tried several different style and settled on... this I guess.

It's not where I wanted to go, but it's where it went... so I assume it's right.

Final cut.

I think I'm pleased. Though I'm going to try to make the vocals a bit less demonic in future ventures. I've been doing punk vocals for so long, it's hard to break out of that habit.

the final cut won't play for me for some reason.

That's actually a legitimate compliment for me, sadly I don't think I can hit his upper register.

And it's going to get it. I aim to start a band hopefully in early 2012.

By the way, in this song: Eau Claire thunder on guitar 1, and Internet on guitar 2.

I wanted to put TGD on the bass but I forgot to bring it, so we ended up using an FZ-2.

Vocals are an Arion SD-1, it's become my favorite pedal for vocal distortion. I wish there were distortion pedals specifically made to be vocals friendly.

I learned something interesting in the process of writing this song.

The main riff didn't happen when I was trying to write a riff, while my friend Mark was setting up I was randomly just strumming a couple of chords. Mark pointed out that I had just written a riff and I looked at him dumbfounded, that random strumming became the verse and everything else from there was pretty easy.

I may have actually written 100's of riffs at this point and wrote them off as random noodling, I've never thought about them in the context of a song. IT's just what I do when there's a guitar in my hands.
