Worth the price? [196_ DUOSONIC CONTENT] - Nevermind

My friend alerted me to a 1968 Fender Duo Sonic for $900 in our local shop. It has an old pearloid pickgaurd. And is in fairly used condition. I assume it is a DUO Sonic II with the mustang ish control plates and all. I will be checking it out tomorrow.
Does this price seem in the right ballpark? Average deal?

Old pearloid pickguard suggests Daphne Blue is likely. If it is and not a refin then that price seems ok. I'm not sure how if it's a good deal or not but it's certainly in the right sort of area and I think on the low side.

He claimed it was white and didn't get a chance for pictures. Can't wait to check it out tomorrow, wondering how it compares to my 65RI.

A Duo II for less than $1000? Of course it's worth it.

I would offer $750 but be happy to pay full price. Always haggle and be prepared to walk. Unless it takes over your mind. Then just buy.

What's with that crappy decal? It's the only real blemish.

I assume it just looks like that because the rest of the neck is dirty as fuck and under the decal is somewhat clean. "DUO SONIC" seems to be scratched off, or something.

Yeah. I wonder what the story is. I mean, it has to be a Fender neck, there aren't too many people making 22-fret 24" necks.

I'm sure the decal is real, just worn down.
However I think you could find a much cleaner duo 2 for that amount of money.

i don't know much about going rates in the US for these but i reckon you could find one on ebay for less... HOWEVER, if you like the way it plays, i'd go for it. it looks amazing. i'd stick a tort guard on, but apart from that, it's ace.
do it.

I'm thinking hard about it. If I got it my guitars would be even more eerily close to yours...
I could get 600-700 on ebay for the Mustang, though I may try trading it in, I feel like they would rather have a minty Mustang than a beat up duo that they don't know anything about.
Does the neckplate tell the year? I'm not sure it is a '68.

it'll give you a ballpark year but i wouldn't set much store by it. ideally you want to pop the neck off and have a look at the stamps on the heel and the bottom of the pickups.

not a bro deal but a decent deal for a guitar you can actually play and inspect before buying. Trade the stang for that thang.

That's a cool looking Duo. If it feels right to you, then I'd say go for it.

It's gorgeous. I love every scratch. The plate is a 1965. You would have to look at the neck stamp to confirm, but I can SEE it's a mid 60s neck. I would not worry for one second about the decal.
I would try to get the price down, assuming they don't know/care what it is and it's beat up and dirty. Pretend like you're doing them a favor.

I may try to trade in my minty stang, and see what the value difference they would say is. If not I'll sell the stang I think and
