SO after gigging the M13 a fair bit in varying scenarios I've decided to get together a little gig board consisting of a few pedals. At the moment I'm using the Boost Comp model for mega subtle compression and light boosting/eq, a turdscreamer model for rhythm work, and the Classic Dist for heavier stuff. The rest of the M13 is used for delays, trem for one song, and light reverbs.

I figure I can get a small board like this to replace the M13 for some shows - Tubescreamer/ocd, muff, Nova Delay and a tremolo of sorts [need help!].
Replacing the Trem might be a problem. I'm using the Bias Trem throughout a whole song, slow verse then distorted chorus, but the Bias Trem speeds up depending on its input signal so I'd need a Trem that acts as such or has a double rate switch. Tricky...

Has anyone else gone from a multieffects unit back to analog/pedals?

I don't plan on getting rid of the M13 anytime soon, its too useful for writing and it will be key for recording not only guitar but Bass and midi keys etc. But I could definitely go back to some pedals and keep it simple since "my sound" has set in with the band now. [that sounds cocky]

any suggestions shortscale?

Seems like a waste o' money to me; it's not like 3-4 pedals on a board is going to be insanely more portable than the M13.

I'm not worried about size of the rig, more so about getting drive sounds and using the nova to handle the modulation/delays. And the m13 will still be in use, and building a pedal isn't exactly going to break the bank so I don't see this as money wasted.

I guess I don't understand the reason for switching back. Do you just want a smaller gigging board or is the M13 too bulky?

So you're happy with the drive sounds of the M13, the size isn't an issue and it does what you want already..

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why the downsize then?

Maybe buy four M5s?

If you're perfectly happy with the M13, sell the Nova Delay and anything else you're not using. Don't try and build/buy other things to shoe horn the Nova Delay into your setup.

Or just leave the Nova Delay on a shelf.

I guess I'm missing the point also. What's the main issue you have with your current setup besides maybe it not having enough INDIE CRED?

you like the m13, and will still use it in conjunction with this smaller pedal board you're wanting? then what parts of the m13 are you wanting to replace?

you want to keep the novadelay on the board, but want something more powerful to drive it? baby ECT?

To clarify, Haze digs all the things he has. However, he prefers to use the M13 more as a versatile tool while recording and wishes to have a separate small pedal board to gig with.

Do it! Worst case scenario is that you have a fuckton of pedals you get to play around with. They don't depreciate much in resale value too much and you can always trade/sell stuff on here.

He's saying he doesn't want to use the m13 live anymore, no matter the reason. He wants an OD and a Muff and the nova delay, but needs trem and/or verbs before he can do without the M13. He's going to use the M13 for DIs, keys, a general purpose signal processor, not building a floorboard that would make Pete Cornish cream his jeans.

I personally spark ideas from sounds I force myself to work within, and can't get inspired by gear that does everything. I think it's good he's pruning his pedalboard to the essentials as far as his role in his band goes. Saves him getting bored and stepping in a pile of phaser one day. Maybe he cherishes his drive and modulation sounds, to each their own. If he needs to experiment with other effects down the line, the m13 is around (instead of another pedal purchase).

pretty much paul, i'll seek advice elsewhere as well but yeah, the m13 is a great tool but not ideal for every gig so just a small board to replace it sometimes.
And with that many different options I have definitely fallen into a pit of phaser etc

As regards your trem issue, I don't know of any envelope driven trem circuits that come to mind - but you could build a tremulus lune and use a footswitch to toggle between two Rate knobs fairly easily I imagine. the Rate & Fine knobs are just wired as variable resistors so you could have a Rate always in the circuit to set your trem range and then have two Fine knobs (the Fine 10K is still really effective) to go from your fast to slower trem settings at the click of a footswitch. Could be a fun build. If you're daunted by the number of knobs you can always hard-set (or trim pot) the controls you might not want to externalise, like Smoothness, Symmetry, Spacing etc. Or just build a Trem in a big box with LOADSA knobs.

As far as Drive, you know what you like, and an OCD obviously well in your range.

Line 6 Tap Trem will do this.

I've thought of a tremulus lune and wiring such a switch, the amount of pots you can add to tweak is awesome. I can see an afternoon spent on finding the perfect wave shape for a synth
