Need Jaguar Wiring help.

So, I want to replace the tone pot (I always keep it at 10 anyway) with another volume pot so I can have separate volume controls for each pickup. Also I want to be sure that they are completely independent ie: killing neck all the way has no effect on the bridge and vice versa... Basically I want Jazz Bass style, NOT LP.

I thought I'd be able to figure it out on my own looking at some different wiring diagrams... but I'm still pretty confused.

I am certainly no newbie to soldering... but I am a newbie when it comes to guitar wiring.

I should have the new 1M audio taper pot by tomorrow (to match the original existing volume pot), also I have some resistors I think may be necessary to avoid the one killing the other issue stated above.

It is the Jaguar HH Special

Any and all help greatly appreciated!!

From memory, this is the Squier Super Sonic wiring setup (which is two humbuckers, volume for each, no tone and 3 way toggle) . You might have some luck finding that schematic online, but I also think it's been posted here recently.

this is helpful... but, my jag has the slider switches for on/off for each pickup not the 3-way... how will that differ?

You'd go from the pickup to the volume pot, or to the on/off switch (i don't think the order matters) and then go to the 3-way switch from there. Though if you're having independent volume controls you might want to consider installing a 3-way switch because it's much more convenient than two slide switches and you're able to 'kill' one pickup by rolling off the volume anyway.

yea... but i'm hoping to not really alter the look of it, just the function... i do realize the two on/off sliders kinda become redundant after this mod though

so i drew this up (well, mostly edited it.)

so i think what i have done here, is bypassed the on/off switch for the bridge pickup in the lead circuit. the bridge pickup will be sent to the new volume pot and then up to the rhythm/lead switch so that when its in lead position i'm sending both pickups to the output, and when its in the rhythm position there is no bridge pickup just like its supposed to be...

also i still get the "strangle" on the neck pickup when i use the lead circuit.

my only concern is, is it ok the have both of the volume pots outputs going to the same solder point on the rhythm/lead circuit?
i think it might be, because its still pretty similar to how they would run together thru the lead circuit switches.

thoughts?

SLIGHT CHANGE TO THAT LAST DRAWING OF MINE OR THEY WON"T BE INDEPENDENT (or so I'm told, I didn't actually try it that way)

Hey everybody,it worked! completely independent volumes on the Jag HH Special, I'm pretty sure this would work on any Jag actually.

So far I've only played thru the practice amp in my apartment, Vox Pathfinder 15R
But I'm really excited to go play thru my DRRI at my practice space and really see what I can do with it

thanks to everybody for your help! I learned A LOT doing this project.
I can't confirm whether or not other people's schemes worked or not since I didn't try them...

My mod, leaves what was the on/off for the bridge open (ie: it doesn't do anything right now) I probably would use it for a phase inverse but the dragsters won't let me, only 2 wires...

Also, Null.Fuzz at OSG told me that I could've connected Lug #1 of the bridge vol pot to lug #1 of the neck pot and got the same results, but I decided to stick to my design out of pride I guess ;D

Nice wiring diagram, I turned my Abbasids into a jag with jazzmaster pups , on the money, just like I did it, there are a couple diferent schematics floating around on the web, semoir duncans, fenders, etc, but this is what I did except I pit a 56k resistor on my bridge pup in the middle plate and turned the last switch into a kill switch by accident and ended up keeping it that way
