My Mustang project is still on ice, but very close to completion. I just need to order some pots, jack and capacitor....and that's where I'm stuck.

Can someone in the UK recommend a seller who can supply me with a suitable cap for a vintage spec'd Mustang. The body and neck are from '66 and I have a '65 neck pickup and switches and a hand-wound (to vintage spec) bridge pickup. I'm not looking for it to sound 'hot' or anything - I want it to sound as close as possible to how one would have sounded that rolled off the production line c. 1966.

would be great, though I don't suppose it matters what it looks like.

I've tried looking on eBay, but it's a bit of a mine-field shopping for capacitors when you don't talk the talk (as I don't). I've heard paper in oil is supposed to be best, but really I'm just scrabbling around in the dark.

Help in choosing the right one, hopefully with a link to where I can buy it, would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

as far as I know the only person making repros
they come with the black tubing as well

Thanks for the links. If no-one in the UK can point me at a good alternative I'll probably go with one of those.

I also found this, which would minimise the amount of soldering I'd have to do. Helluva dear way to buy those bits unless they'll accept a really low Best Offer, though.

I previously had my eye on this paper in oil cap, but wasn't sure about the 400vdc bit, but given that it costs about the same as the repro one maybe I should just go with that.

The volt rating is not really gonna make a difference in the way the cap functions.... the more volts the smoother the sond usually but is nothing that can be easiuly picked out by just listening with most peoples ears... but do bear in mind the larger the cap volt rating the larger the physical size of the cap..... I have used a 600 volt orange drop in a pinch before and it worked great....


honestly I would just use an Orange Drop, they work great and are affordable... but not "stock" type material
