I got this off the bay for 640 +75 shipping
(He actually ended up paying 75 to ship it using USPS. I am sure he could of saved money if he had used FedEx)
Seller didnt provide many pictures but I now have it in my possession.
It was advertised as all original with original hardcase. I ended up having to take the sellers word although at 640 and with paypal policy I figured I was fine although might have money tied up in paypal dispute for weeks.

I am going to put in the rotosound flats on soon.

I dont know much about CBS Fender guitars. The neck stamp seems to have deteriorated. The case says Victoria, Is this the original case? Did these guitars come with a case? The pots are 74' CTS and i'm not sure how to read the pickup code. Is the decal proper?

I don't these guitars were stamped like the older Fenders. My '77 stang had a red stamp like that but it was pretty worn. I'm pretty sure it was just some kind of code that I don't know.

Everything looks like my '77 stang but that's all I have to compare it to. The case looks original but again, I'm no expert.

Looks awesome! Where do you live that it cost him $75 to ship this to you? I shipped a Stingray bass, which was a much bigger package than a mustang bass would be, in december for only $30 via USPS.

As for the case, it doesn't look like the one that came with my '78 Fender Musicmaster bass, I would assume that all the short scale basses around that time came with the same cases. Here's my MM in it's case:

That looks great, especially considering the price.

RS77 is a fine choice for the instrument, fantastic sounding strings. Put some Aero pickups in it! :D

Does the 78 case have fender logo on the case?

Honestly I can't remember. It's still at my dad's house up in NC, next time I go back there I plan on bringing it back to atlanta with me, I will check then.

Aren't sunbursts quite rare, or is that straight Mustangs? Either way great score!

I think it depends on the year it seems like sunburst seemed to have been made more often in 73-75 especially with white pickguards
as far as the pics I have seen.

It's quite possible that yours is original and mine is not. Yours seems to fit the size of the body a bit better than mine does.

I think both could be original because there does seem to be a change from 75 to 77 since the pickguard changes from standard white to black and sunburst seems to be less common as far as what i have noticed

Victoria was the original case manufacturer for Fender. 60s era Mustangs had Victoria cases, and they were still using them into the early / mid 70s. I'm not sure when the shortscales switched over to the black / Fender logo cases.

From what I can see in the pictures, everything on that bass looks authentic / original. It's a beauty - congrats! 8)
