Washburn super strat type thing...

Post by dezb1 »

Right so after watching Doog and his super strat I was thinking about getting one me self, and a guy at my work has offered to sell me one of these for £150. I can’t find much about them on T’internet apart from that it has a Carbon composite fret board and might be a bit rare, anyone know if they are any good?

Even the name says PRS rip-off haha. Look like great players, although aesthetically it really isn't for me. If you have cash to burn and need a super strat ultra player then do it.

Meh, i wouldnt do it. There was a company...cant remember the name that made guitars out of plsstic stating that it was an environmental alternative. their guitars felt terrible.

Some old washburns are really good but they did make some budget stuff, the Emg select pups and Samick-like contour and inlays would make me wary here for £150. Can you play it first?
Personally I think you could snag an old Charvel or MIJ Ibanez for £150 which are a safer bet.

I had a look at some old charvels on ebay but they're all selling for around the £300 mark, and I'm not up for paying that much as I'm just buying one as a bit of a nostalgia and a reason to get me spandex on...

Yeah they have risen in value recently but I'm sure the MIJ ibanez lower rg models still sell around £150.
Worth checking squier stagemasters as well, the set neck models are ace and usually go for well under £150. The deal breaker is the trem on a lot of budget super strats.

As with most things, I suspect superstrats might have become cool after I sold mine. I'm maybe a bit of an obstacle to cool. No-one wants to look like me.

The neck on this thing is tremendous, even I can shred on it and I ain't no shredder... I half expected to find han solo frozen in the frett board.... carbonite it's from a long long time ago yet feels like the future. I'll post some pics when I get home oh and I got it for £110 he talked his own price down "its old and dusty I'm not even sure if it all still works let's call it £110".

It's all about how you tote it.

For the record, EMG Select pickups really aren't bad at all. There's no huge difference between the one in my sthooperStrat and the like 60 quid Dimarzio. The Selects are not even microphonic which is the classic cheap pickup curse.

Decent side-by-side comparison of posh and not-so-posh pickups including the Select, which holds its own I reckon. Maybe a little muffled at times, but once you put shredding amounts of gain on it, who fookin' cares, right? :)

Looks like a fun little axe, Dezb mate- £110 for a bit of widdlywiddly fun is mighty fine. How's the locking trem?
