How do we know what "Reissue" means?

The original shortscale guitars; Mustangs, Duo-Sonics, Musicmasters, Jaguars, Broncos, Jag-stang, Jagmaster, Super-Sonic, Cyclone, and Toronados.

How do we know what "Reissue" means?

Post by Doug »

I'm curious about the term "Reissue":

is the meaning of the term arbitrary? :?

is it's use determined solely by the manufacturers?

are there any objective criteria for it's correct usage? :(

a reissue means that something (anything; an album, comic book, guitar, etc.) was made at one point, then stopped being made. then the producer realized the error of their ways, company changed hands, whatever, and a replica or maybe a slightly tweaked version was re-issued (issued again), much to the chagrin of OGs & hipsters.

AVRI: American Vintage Reissue - this is a fender term; from the horses mouth.

I got an original copy of the Heavy Metal adaptation of Alien in immaculate shape the other day for $2, with the original newsstand price being $3.95 in 1979 USD. As I forked over the cash I was like "man, fuck Fender."
