But i love the Jaguar bass. I was sad to see it go. I liked the idea of the Squire jaguar, but it just wasn't the same.

Well, after a year or two of discontinuedness... Fender's bringing back the Jaguar Bass!

The Cobalt Blue sounds interesting... though i want the CAR version.

I'm primarily a bassist, and I never took to the Jaguar bass. I never liked the passive/active switch. It sounded like a really sub par passive jazz bass on passive mode and a really sub par active jazz bass on active mode. Fender offers much better versions of passive and active jazz basses in the same price range if not cheaper.

I always wanted a Jag bass. The squiers are cool and the SS is more "correct" but I wanted the switching options. Now I might get that chance again.

Always love mine. One of the best instruments I've ever owned.

And it comes in blue! I wonder if the blue will have a matching headstock.

Not a bad bass, but after playing the ash wonder that was my old '78 for 10 years (proudly sold to Swing Hailey), it felt "stiff", seemed to lack a good amount of upper frequency character, and had pickups that were too hot. Granted, it was comfy and looked cool, but the addition of an active circuit didn't make up for the lack of independent volume controls, which I find essential in a 2-pickup bass setup. I was also cursed to have one with a grade of rosewood on the neck that wasn't what one would expect, as it seemed freakishly bleached, and let's face it: dots look more sensible than a blocked fingerboard without binding. Truth be told, had one all over again, I'd do something silly like either a split P-Bass pickup in the neck or a pair of Thundertrons, and use the active circuit sliders as tone controls for the newly refitted two independent volume pots...Then again, that's why I have a Moollon J-Classic to cover all of my bass needs.

Things were nonetheless fun for a season...







On a related note, when Cindi and I were in Japan in early '08, I took a pic of the bunch at the Shibuya Ishibashi, including the charming non-export Vintage White and what seemed to be Fiesta Red, although considering the CIJ exports it was most likely Dakota Red.

They released a 30" version the other month, but yeah, most are 34".

crap, i missed that, ank!

i really wanted the one with the bridge hum, until i found out that they're 34".

The B16 shoots the bridge so high demanding a wicked shim in the neck, it's a real beast you've got to fight to play. I think it looks pretty rad with the pearloid... but i think it's coming with a mint guard... i could be way off base with that, though...

That jazz bass isn't a fender. It's a Hamer. I thought something seemed off about the way that body looked so I googled Fender cobalt blue, and even though that was one of the first pics that popped up, when you click the link you're taken to an add for a Hamer slammer.

The first one looks Lake placid blue to me too, I know Fender Japan had a lot more cool color choices on the jags, so it's quite possible that it was a Japan only model. The only cobalt blue Fender pics I can find are transparent finishes.

Ahhhh you're totally right! I completely botched that one. I was also thinking the body looked a bit 'off'. I replaced the pic... and you're right though... i'm only seeing the cobalt in transparent.
