I'm working on two guitars for friends and another for myself. The EKO 12 string (not a Ranger, I can't remember the name) was given to me as it had no tuners and the guy couldn't be bothered with it. I'm running a bunch of ideas through my head as to what to do with it (as well as just equipping it with tuners) such as making a big plastic soundhole cover with a humbucker mounted to it with controls drilled into the body. It's in a bit of a shit state anyway. And it was free. So who knows.

The Jaguar I'm doing for a friend who'd played mine and wanted the same bridge mod done, as well as a buzz-stop. Just waiting for the buzz stop to get here. Easy job.

This might actually be a little more complex if only for the time and expense. There's no major body modification necessary, but look at all that rust... A completely new bridge (yes, the hardware is/was gold), new screws, new pickups (noiseless Entwistle Strat pickups I'm thinking), new nut (old one has snapped under the low E), a new scratchplate, and potentially a refinish later down the line, although I've told him I'll only be confident enough to approach that after giving it a go with my teardrop.

However, there is this:

Apparently it happened six years ago and doesn't appear deep enough to affect anything else. It isn't pretty though and is generally the sort of thing that fills me with dread. If I sand it down I could probably just fill it with wood filler and then sand it out.

My roommate from college has that exact 12 string EKO guitar. Let me know if you need pictures of it for reference.

Nah, it's a Mexican in blond. Mary Kaye's are pink? I can't remember the proper model number.

Anyway, he's finally coughing up the money for this. When he gave it to me he had a Gibson RD and an Epiphone three-pickup SG. But in the space of two weeks the Gibson had the head snapped off thanks to an emergency stop in a taxi (and it was even in the case) and the SG managed to take a tumble, snapping the neck right out of the pocket and tearing a fair bit of the body with it. Pretty fucking unlucky. So he invested in getting the RD fixed which took up any spare cash he had. So I'll probably be going for a gold anodized pickguard to replace the patented uglytort that seems necessary on nearly everything with strings just recently, a new nut and bridge (essential) and potentially some new pickups, though I'm not sure what. I was considering a set of three Entwistle noiseless single coils but they appear to be getting scarce. So possibly GFS.

The EKO stalled because I bought a tuner strip... and it didn't fit. It was only cheap, but the measurements were off by a millimetre. Either 23mm or 24mm I think, and I can't find tuner strips with those measurements. So I'll probably go with individual tuners.

And the Jag was a success and booted out the door pretty quickly. I used the money on hookers and blow. And for all the hardware for the teardrop. They were cheap hookers and shit blow.

Let me know if you end up replacing the hardware with chrome on the Strat, I'd like some old goldies for my Jazzmaster.

Mary Kay is like a see through blonde, with gold HW.

Great stuff! I love that strat except for the blowtorchingness. Was that in Dresden? I have sprayed so many guitars now I don't even blink. You can learn.

yeah, for srs - did he burn it on purpose, or use it to club down the door of a burning orphanage to save the kiddies?

He must of used a blow torch or heat gun to pull that finish. I remember when I was a kiddo in shop class, we used to build stuff outta pine and hit it with a blow torch... then sand it back a little bit. I'm gonna do a pine torched body one day for shits & giggles.

I think he just got drunk and squirted lighter fluid on it and then set it on fire for a laugh. He's a scot, they do that sort of thing. Then it's a combination of sweat and bad storage conditions that rusted the bridge to absolute death.

I love the rust. I have scorched with a heat gun before. It's nothing serious.
