Been hounding after one of these for the reverse reverb function for teh kevin sheeldz, and at $100 CDN the price was right.

Considering the SPX's reverb's solid reputation I was somewhat unimpressed with the regular hall/plate/room reverbs. The factory settings are extremely wet to the point of obnoxiousness. That being said, it was extremely easy to tweak and I managed to figure out everything without a manual. The unit colors the tone in a very '80's manner, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The "Symphonic" preset is a chorus/reverb thing that sounds like 'Paradise City'.

The reverse-gated reverb behaves more like a delay then a reverb when you are playing, which isn't always made clear in demos i have seen on youtube. On top of that, it is more difficult to strum in time with the reverse-verb then it is with a regular delay. I was really hoping I could nail the molten bee guitar tone on "To Here Knows When", alas. The effect is still super cool and will be worth learning my way around.

The "Pitchshifter C" setting takes the note and detunes it ever so slightly 0.1+cent up and 0.1-cent down. I play with two amplifiers and this is one of the most gorgeous chorus sounds I have heard. I am not a big fan of chorus to begin with, but I will have to incorporate it somewhere.

I think the default settings are probably so wet because you would use it in a parallel manner for studio use and keep the verb 100% and mix in how much you want.
