So, I got two new guitars.
First I bought a 82 Fender Bullet Deluxe from a friend. It is awesome.
It's tuning stability blows... action is good, any suggestions? I suck at stuff.
And then, it was my birthday this past friday, and my super-duper awesome girlfriend bought me a "Aria - Raven" but after some research I have found out it has like 25 names like the Epiphone EA-250. So it is from the Matsumoku plant in Japan, early 70s, is awesome.
Anyone have any info on these type of pickups? The action is super-high, and I do not understand hollow-bodies.... any advice?
I have more pictures but the uploader is acting all wacky.
Any idea where I can get a replacement Tremolo bar for the aria?

My pan is almost exactly the same, but with pointier horns. Those pickups are awesome, super garage-y but not without their charm. They really compliment the hollow-ness well.
I shimmed the neck on mine and the action cleaned up really nicely. Also, make sure the nut is nicely cut because it'll give you tons of trouble like mine does.

Yeah man, they are both wonderful.
The bullet is my first full-scale so I decided to go all out and put 11's on it, as I am used to 9's on a shortscale (yes roll your eyes I like slinky-ness).
The bridge pick-up is a little week, I am thinking of cramming my Duncan lil'59 single coil in, thought it is white and would ruin the whole aesthetic.

why would you put 11s on it if you like slinky strings? you need to go down on the size of the strings, not up. you need like 8s.

Oh I meant I would go all out and try what most people use.
I figured .11's on a full-scale is standard? I so wanted to try it out.
Would you suggest a GFS Tele bridge?

SHORTSCALE IS MANLAND
everything is not going to be alright
Lucamo, I think you're a bit confused. You don't up the string gauge with the size of the neck, it goes the other way around in fact. If you like 9's on a shortscale, I would stick with 9's on a full scale, maybe even 8's.....According to Fender, who strings practically all their guitars with 9's from the factory it should be 9's.
.11's are in no way standard strings for a full length guitar unless you're into jazz, blues, or drop tuned metal. I'd go 10's myself if you want to try something new....or even a 9.5

I've got 11's on almost all of my guitars (25.5 and 24.75), and they don't feel that thick at all, but if you're going from 9's to 11's, then yeah it will be quite a change.Nick wrote:Lucamo, I think you're a bit confused. kewl.
i use .11-.52 on shortscales, and .10-? on the normal ones.
but to answer the question about the string height... you need a neck shim.
that's the first mod i (usually need to) do to all my old guitars.
take the neck off and place a mid or thick guitar plectrum (pick) in the neck pocked. between the screws, but directly on the cutout near the neck pup, i mean. you understand what i mean? - sure hope so.
put the neck back on and tighten screws. now, you can (will have to?) raise the bridge height to your taste, or, where there's no fret buzz.
that is, if the bridge is already screwed all down. if not, do that first and see how it goes.
good luck and congrats! really nice fiddles, right there!
Pat.

Oh no I understood string thickness and what not.
I just always hear people like Willie saying .11's on everything, so I wanted to try out MAN strings for once and not fiddle around on my shortscale with plinky strings.
NECK SHIM AWAY! One Pick you use? Doesn't that leave the neck uneven or cause issues with contact in the neck pocket?

Got ya I understand. I was playing a cheap SX tele my friend's dad bought and it had 11's strung on it. Unfortunately it wasn't set up for them because the intonation was terrible, but it played and sounded damn nice.
I figured you may have meant that but yeah, 9's on a shortscale to 11's on a full scale will be night and day. Good luck with it, respect for not taking baby steps lol
