Absolutely loving this guitar! Official New Guitar Day was yesterday, but haven't been able to put it down long enough to post. This guitar came up locally to me (I've been eyeing up musicmasters & broncos online for some time, but this is only the second I've ever seen in the flesh). Gloriously worn....has obviously been played a lot by previous owner(s) & the sound when this guitar is plugged in explains exactly why it's been played so much! Sounds warm & amazing straight into a tube amp - I've barely given it a test-run through the pedalboard yet.
It's also the same age as I am - I've always liked the concept of having a birth year guitar & now I do - chuffed to bits
Stewart - you're 100% right. The necks are a major selling point on these. Playability is definitely such a factor of what makes these guitars so special. Riffs aplenty have been had in my household this weekend.
James - agreed on the wear too. Give me this over "an relic" any day of the week. This thing has been ridden hard, but every dent & bit of worn away poly feels 100% authentic, like it's testament to every mic stand that's been bumped and every bit of gig-wear that this guitar has been subjected to. It's not O.T.T. but no-one has babied it either & I like that, as I will never feel like a scratch or dent matters (not that I have historically with any other guitar either!)
I have a 1978 Fiesta Red Musicmaster that I put together that is also a birth year guitar for me as well. The treble bleed circuit and the 80s red pickup make it one of my favorites. The simplicity is so nice. I doubt I will ever sell mine.
Aen & Taylornutt....just seen yours in the other thread (will remember not to swap out my pots for 1ks then!!) Nice....quite a few Musicmasters doing the rounds on shortscale then? We don't seem to see them in the UK all that much for some reason.
