hey , this is the newest project i am working on, mex strat neck, cbs headstock, i stripped it first,

Image

Image

tis is what inspired me to do this neck, i love this picture of aFender Japan strat hollow body , except the truss is at the bottom, but otherwise i got it pretty exact,

Image

so waiting for the restoration decal to come in the mail,( oh yeah, it hasn't been wet sanded at all yet so still looks bumpy i know, it will be professionally finished at the end, smooth as a mirror) it would already be on the neck but don't have it yet, but the place i get them from make amazing decals, i really could've made this neck into a jazz master neck, it would've really fit the neck, the radius and width of this nek is really like a jazzy neck, I'm really surprised how flat the fretboard was and is after fretting it, i love the feel, this usually happens to me, i make something like this and than don't want to sell it , or regret selling it, but i have no use for it now but to sell, i am not currently working any project guitars for myself that i need it for, i have my Jag and happy with just that, but her are some more photos of the work i have done to the neck in the last 2 days, i am almost done

Image

here is it now, waiting for the decal, so its a project on hold for another day or so, but this neck really reminds me of this picture of a vintage jazz master neck i saw online, i know the bindings are different color, and the truss rod is located at the top, it reminds me of it cuz of the shape and width and stuff, it really would be a good jazz aster neck, to bad i ordered a strat decal

Image

this is the jazz master neck it reminds me of,

Image

Image

Image

i pretty much matched up the stain to be just like my jaguar, i still will make it a little darker as i go because polyurethane will make it more amber,

Image

its weird, in some lighting it looks darker than other, but thats how my jag is so i guess that just the stain,

Image

i am really happy with the style i do the necks in now after my Jaguar, doing my jaguars neck, kinda guided me towards a better look for these things, i used to make the necks to reddish or orange with this Dark amber stain i found on ebay, but since matching my Jaguar neck headstock to the back , i had to make it the dark maple color, and now like that color better , and I'm sure people will too, it looks more authentic, here is my jag and the neck,

Image

i wish i had a better camera that would focus more into the neck, so you guys can see how there is no glue residue or evidence, it looks like the bindings and wood are one, factory made, but my stupid camera won't focus in on that as well ,

Image
here was my jag project, with by being super careful with it , learned to do better on other necks,

Image

Image

me and my jag, i just thought this was cool, before and after

Image

Image

welp, this is the last photo for now, until i get the decal, so for the dudes that don't like watching guitar projects, but go on the forum anyway ?/?/? you can calm down, although i love seeing how people do stuff, thats how i learned to do stuff, anyway , this is the style decal i am waiting for, its basically like a MIJ decal, but with the serial number underneath the "Fender:" of the decal, i think its hot, and will match this neck perfectly, i just regret making it a strat neck, it really should've been a jazz master neck but i know jazz master players aren't crazy about the truss rod adjustment at the headstock, so i thought to just keep it a strat , see ya'll later

Looks good. I wish I had the patience and skill to do something like this.

Strat or otherwise, it looks like quality work.

paul, is there any chance when you're posting photos you could put line breaks inbetween them? for example:

if i'm browsing on my phone (as i do most days) and there's an image right after the end of a sentence it screws up the horizontal scrolling. would be much appreciated!

ok

yeah sorry, i usually am just in a rush and doing a lot of photo work and uploading the same time and either don't think of it or just so busy doing so many things at once to post this that i forget, sorry , i try to do my best with combining photos by putting 3 of them for example, than taking a screen shot of all 3 together so i only upload one, and doing that is a pisser alone, but i want to show as much as i can, i wish all interested could actually see it in person, i am so excited how good these projects come out,

oh and i appreciate the fact that no one bashed me for these photos so far, as i posted in the TITLE, if you don't like pics of guitar projects, than don't come onto the thread, why would someone join a thread that pisses them off, it doesn't make sense, so thanks guys,

yeah i might mostly do a lot of necks, and post similar threads and photos , but i do wiring and any other thing you can think of for a electric guitar, so i can help in all areas if needed, thats what i want to do,

It's like playing a game of tetris whilst on acid.... argh. Not fun !! Even worse than watching Dumbo whilst tripping on calpol.

I like pictures, doesn't everyone ? I looked...

Nice work !! but tidy it up.... otherwise people will lose interest in the great things you wish to share.

AWSOME! GOT MY DECAL!

just got th decal today, i took a hundred million pics as always of the neck with the decal, i feel that the neck finally got its identity or something, it just feels naked without it, i have seen people with Allparts or Warmoth necks for example, and "NO DECAL?", THAT SUCKS, i think it really adds to the look, anyway, i got it but noticed 2 things, first, i took measurements of my Jaguar decal because its actually the real thing so wanted to give the guy making the decal an idea of th size, and he didn't listen i guess, because the decal is a little bigger, although i can't complain to this guy because i tried a few different places and people that make/sell them, and never found someone that makes them this good,
second thing i noticed is that the decal doesn't have the " original contour " little decal at the ball end of the headstock, but i think thats my fault because i sent him a picture of the decal and the 2 example pics i sent did not have that little part, 1 sample was the "Fender japan strat. and another was a california USA strat, so i guess the guy making the decal just figured i didn't want that part, but oh well, if thats how fender makes it sometimes than it will work, and it looks soooooo good as it is, idk,

these pics are just of the neck before i wet sanded it at all or i haven't even sprayed over the decal yet so it will have a mirror glass smooth feel to it at the end and no evidence that the decal is restoration, it will look printed on, trust me, this is why i love this guys decals, and they have the real "GOLD" ink in them, its hard to find them this good, super thin so you can't even see the outline around the decal even before spraying and wet sanding it flush,

here we go with some pics, notice the gold trim on the fender, like the japan models, love itImage

i love how in some angles you see the gold some you don't, just like the Japan versions, thats why i chose this decal,Image

once again, i know the finish still looks like shit, i haven't done any wet sanding yet because i was waiting for the decal to continue spraying than wetland between every other coat or so until i run out of 2 cans of polyurethane, than finish the wet sanding with 2,000 grit and than buff with turtle wax and some other crap,

i honestly love this neck, even though i am not crazy about the truss rod being at the top, the neck came out just like my CIJ JAG , in fact better in some ways. and would love to keep it for a jazz master build, but actually want to share what i made, the time, effort money and patience i put into this, i probably won't make much on this, i mean how much can i sell it for , i paid $ 200 for the neck, than bought bindings, blocks, glues, sandpapers, exact blades stains, polysprays, frets, decal, painters tAPE, binding tape, , i don't know, a bunch of stuff, and my labor for a week non stop day and night , can't really sell it for more than 300-350, i mean i could, i sold my last one, a warmth jazz master neck i bound and blocked and it didn't come out nearly as good as this one, and i got 451.00 for it, but i don't want to be unrealistic, i just look at it as a hobby, i don't work right know besides this so it keeps me busy, anyway

here are my jag, and my newest project, you can see how i pretty much matched up the style, color and all, Image

back and frontImage

this is hat i mean about the decal not having the " original contour" logo at the ball end of the decal, these two necks don't have them so when i ordered my decal, the guy just made it without it based on these pics i sent him, but it confuses me, because that same strat from japan with the bindings and blocks, actually has that "original contour" logo in a different photo, look below Image

see, check this shot out of the same bound blocked neck as above, same guitar, "Fender Japan Hollow body B & B strat, it has the "original contour logo, but in the photo with just the headstock there is not that part in it, Image

and finally, this is another "Fender Japan " neck, it is almost just like mine, it has the serial number underneath the "Fender " of the decal also, but it has the contour part, mine doesn't, idk, beats me, i guess it just is when they made them or maybe if it was a difference in MIJ and CIJ, who knows

,Image

last shot is a double of my project, tomorrow foul be seeing it smooth as glass, i sprayed the hell out of it all day today, it will dry over night and wetland tomorrow, than do can 2, day after that, it will be don, i was thinking of buying a set of gotoh vintage tuners or the 65' fender F tuners for it on ebay and selling it loaded, i don't know, because maybe someone would rather put there own tuners on it, but than again, sometimes people don't know how to install them and i can be of help in that way too, i would put them in for them, anyway, goodnight everybodyImage

That's what I did, just look between every photo, I wrote something about each photo before I posted it and spaced like twice in between, than when I preveiwed it before hitting submit, it looked fine without side scrolling , and than after I submitted it, it had the damn side scrolling anyway, I don't know, but I did what you guys said to do with the " text space image thing" you can see that simply by looking the wordsand spaces before each photo,

Sorry, I guess that works maybe with smaller pics or something because it didn't work here

But besides trying to figure out how to post w/o side scroll, I'm wetsanding the neck now after emptying a can of polyurethane on it "spray", after this I will repeat process, I want to make sire I really seal that decal in

The image in your signature is massive. Please make it smaller or remove it (or I will).

i made it smaller but are you someone that runs the site?, why or how would you take it off, my image was the same size or smaller than some of the other guys even on this forum, just look above, so i was just wondering why did it bother you,

i am not really sure who is who on here yet because i just joined not too long ago, and only really read my own post so far, and i have delt with a lot of crap for me posting images, so i am just hoping your not just messing with me just like how other people would for my images,

i liked my signature image size and now its tiny, but again, I'm not sure who is who, so i will obey and until i know what is real on here i guess i ll just deal with it, but again, check out some of the other images on here for signatures and you can't tell me mine was bigger,

im done

I edited the first post a couple of days ago to make it readable, I was intending to make a post stating that because now Stewart's post looks a bit out of place. The other images haven't finished loading as I only opened the thread 15 minutes ago but the posts after that do seem to be at least a bit better formatted.

Are you installing the binding around the original frets? Or pulling em out and refretting?
