NGD - CP Jaguar

After last year's financial tumult (which resulted in the sale of mucho guitars), I'm back in the Jag business, in a good way. One of the victims of the guitar sell-off, was Candy, my CAR, CIJ '66 reissue Jaguar. It was a great guitar, but when my cluster headaches made an appearance again (they are considered by most medical experts to be even more excruciating than migraines), and I needed to pay for the expensive meds used to stop the headaches, I did what I had to do.

When I got up a decent amount of scratch (courtesy of a bonus at work, this past April), I bought a Blacktop Jag. It was OK, but I missed the unique sound (IMO), that the single coil Jags have, so I wound up selling it. Last week, I received an e-mail offer from zZounds, for buying gear, on an 8 payments plan. I've had good results from zZounds in the past, and when I saw that the CP Jaguar was included in the offer (I tried out a CP Jag 10 months ago, and liked what I heard), at $100 monthly payments, I felt this was an offer I couldn't refuse, so I pulled the trigger. Yesterday, the guitar arrived at work (I try to get UPS shipments sent to my workplace, since I've had a few bad experiences, with home delivery from the in the past), and I took a photo of the guitar, in my office:

I didn't get much of a chance to spend some quality time with it last night (I needed to do laundry), but what little time I did spend with it, gave me some good initial impressions. The playbility is as good as my old '66 Reissue's was. The pickups are better IMO, due to them being a bit hotter. It really snarled through my Marshall! Tonight or tomorrow, I'm going to replace the strings on it, with a set of D'Addario EJ120s (12s, with a wound G). I used 12s, on my old '66 Reissue, and loved the tauter playing feel they provided me, compared to lighter gauge strings (which felt kind of rubber bandy to me). So, I'm assuming the EJ120s will have the same effect on my CP.

Excellent choice! They are fantastic guitars with excellent build quality and hardware - red looks lovely! Recommend trying out one of those GFS roller bridges which drop right in - makes the trem and bends smoooooooooth!

Good on you dude, I absolutely love the CP Jags, one of the few guitars that actually benefits from fender's "throw hotter pickups into it" mantra.

Congrats!
I like my CP. I tried flatwound 11s on it, vs. 10s previously, and am enjoying the different feel of the strings.

Ellen - wishing she was done here at work for the day, so she could spend some quality time with her new Jaguar.
