Cyclone Project [COMPLETED Pg3]

Post by serfx »

Hey Shortscale, so back in the summer of 2009 Robert(OG) sent me a cyclone body that he had glued back together, I attempted a sorry bloodburst on it
it looked like shit.
then it sat in a pile of projects for a little while
until this past week

i sanded down the paint/stain job that i had given it,

blocked the rest of the trem

and started to work on it.

i apologize for the shitty iPhone pics
i didn't take my camera with me
► Show Spoiler
now to let it cure for a week or so, then a couple more coats, then clear

will be getting a jaguar pickguard, humbuckers..
3way w/kill switch

will have upper jag plate, but no controls in it..
500K pots

neck is a jagmaster 24Conversion neck
will have a GFS hardtail bridge

Looks great! I've never seen one of these with jag controls. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

That is goddamn sexy. I've been leaning towards that dark blue for my current project, but I keep going back to dark green. I love that blue color.

Imma be watching this thread for climax....I mean, conclusion.

Dude, you went all out and blocked up the trem cavity and you're NOT popping a JM trem on that sucker?

At any speed, that's still really good looking. Nice job!

the trem was already half blocked when it was sent to me..
and i don't have another jm/jag trem kicking around for use..
(i've used them all...)
i'm trying to keep this one on a low budget.

the main reason for blocking them trem is that it was a 24 3/4" scale, and fuck if i could find a neck that would work ( i spent two years looking)

in case of IMG tag fail! http://instagr.am/p/Ogu8r/

L-R MIJ jag - only works on rhythm circuit. (now completed)
MIM 90s Duo - needs pickup changes/shielding. (now completed)
Rob(og) Cyclone - the topic of this thread.. pre paint/block job.
Mig project - not sure if i want to remake this body, as it is a little small, and feels kind of strange, or what to do next.
Rob(og) Jagstang - i was given this by Finboy the last time i was in Calgary, so far all i've done is order a control plate, mint guard, and mustang trem/bridge for it

just figured i'd post a pre work photo..

so.. i love the colour
but i had some issues with how the finish was coming

did a wet sand 400/800
couldn't quite get buffed out what i wanted...

however the headstock is totally ready for a waterslide decal/sharpie and some clear coat

i'll be spraying the body again tomorrow, probably a good 4 - 5 coats..

i'm still waiting for some hardware to show up

but essentially it should look similar to this when done

except with a jaguar guard, and upper control.. (i had some broken switches that i'm going to put in for looks...)

keep going.... 1,000 - 1,2000 and if ya can find it 1,500. The finer the paper you use, should save you more grief in the buffing phase. Are you using water or mineral spirits?

Are you gonna machine buff it or by hand?

Lovely Jag by the way.

Add a drop of dish soap to your squirt bottle.

If you don't want the finish to split around any screw holes... fill em in with some cheap wood putty and clean em out after your done with the water.

no, that is why i filled the bridge route
i couldn't get my hands on a cyclone neck
so it is getting a Jagmaster conversion 24" neck..
it should be okay... i measured it before i started working on the thing
i have a squier strat neck somewhere as well so if it turns out (once the bridge arrives in the post) that it isn't going to work, i'll use the 25.5" scale as that will move the bridge back some more.

so for pickups
i have the stock Jagmaster Duncan Designed humbuckers (from a 2007? CIC jagmaster..)
they looks exactly like this
Image

but i've also just ordered some GFS Zebra humbuckers .. (F spaced i believe...)
Image
Bridge pickups is 14K, Neck 10K.

so significantly louder then the Jagmaster pickups..

now i've also picked up a DiMarzio Super Distortion & HOT PAF Humbucker Pickup (both in Cream) (Both F spaced)
The PAF is rated at 12K
the SD is rated at 13.68K

though the PAF is a two wire pickup... so if i do use it in the neck, i'll wire the SD with the phase... as it is a 4 wire.

so i have some options...

what are your thoughts?
