*Update*
I've been working on winding pickups specifically for my mustang copy, and i had made up a small batch to sell using import strat pickups. I am out of the plastic bobbin pickups, and I am now hand assembling fiber bobbins (either gray or black bottoms), and can make pickups with whatever magnet type you may be interested in (alnico 2,3,5, or ceramic). I am also doing rewinds, if you have any pickups that are in need of repair. I also do p90s, humbuckers, tele pickups, and custom designs.

These are great, handwound, scatterwound pickups, made from recycled bobbins fiber bobbins and vinyl potted. I've got white and black and covers for them.
I'm looking to get $35 a piece plus shipping.
If you don't like the sound of the pickups, you can send them back for a refund less shipping. Holycats might be will to vouche for my work, as I've done a couple of rewinds for him.

I'm located in Michigan. I'm guessing sending pickups anywhere in the states would be right around $5 or less. Across the pond or other international locales would be a little pricier.
Thanks for the interest!

also, you should make a demo on how to wind pickups . . .
I've always wanted to do it and I have a pickup that needs rewound but I have no idea how.

I'm working on a couple of rewind videos, including how to upgrade and rewind pickups from old Kingston/teisco/zimgar style guitars. When I get it done, I'll post the link for you.
I just took a look, and shipping to Canada for a pickup should be about 6 dollars.

It's a bit of an elementary, and a slightly sloppy, look at how to get your pickup set up for winding, and a few basics on winding and wiring up your pickups.

right on, very cool.
a couple of things
1. you should start a whorehouse thread to keep everyone update on stuff you're doing and what kind of pickups you make
2. your workshop looks rad
3. where did you get your winder? I've seen people use old sewing machines?
4. I have several sets of tele pickups laying around. what would it cost to have them rewound and Alnico III's put in?

Thanks, man. I hope some of that information is helpful.
I've been trying to get my workshop into shape. That winder is a Sidewinder - so far I like it quite a bit. Previously, I had been using a modified fishing reel for winding pickups, and it was significantly more difficult.
My standard quote for rewinds is $35 dollars per coil. Swapping in Alnico III's would only be an extra $10 per pickup (can be staggered or flat), and that includes the cost of the magnets. If you're looking to do quite a few pickups, I could be a little more flexible on the rewind price.

Very cool. Keep me in mind. I got the chance to play a slew of vintage mustang's at Elderly instrument last weekend, and they are such easy playing guitars.

I've got a few sound clips to post, and I'd like to keep a thread going for anyone interested in pickups or winding. Could a mod move this to the whore house?
I had a guy on Harmony-Central ask me for some bluesy sounding pickups, so I did a few samples for him - unfortunately, playing blues is not my thing, so the playing isn't so hot.
put me down for a set, though i can't pay for them till the 21st..
(stupid paypal holding my ebay monies)
whatever you think will sound closest to the ones you heard in the 65 at elderlies
