Bass Dirt
Hi guys. I think I'm finally passing on that Aria bass to Haze, in exchange for some handmade HazeFX goodness.
I just don't really know what I want.
Okay, that's not entirely true. I do know I want a Bass distortion type box, but I haven't found a demo of one that has what I want. Basically I would like it to have a fair amount of gain and some real grit to it but not get all washed out. I like some of the bass fuzz boxes I've found but they're not quite... "precise" maybe?
Does anyone have any ideas that I can pass on to Haze?

Personally, I like my guitar pedals for bass; I primarily use a Fulltone DP-1, which gives a good gritty drive, and a Marshall Jackhammer, which is more compressed and even.

I've actually been using my MXR distortion+ with bass and it has a pretty awesome fuzzy bass tone. I hate it for guitar, but with bass it actually sounds pretty awesome.
If you want a good bass drive tone, not fuzz, then I would recommend a sansamp DI. I also have a friend who just uses a Boss bass overdrive pedal and it sounds pretty awesome.

Boss ODB-3 (or its Behringer copy). Incredibly high levels of gain are available, but it still sounds focused and detailed. Has bass and treble controls, and also a wet/dry knob (I think) so you can make it as fizzy as you want.
Great pedal for guitar too. Heavy as all fuck. It is my go to heavy, heavy distortion box.

Just thought I'd mention the obvious; that Geezer's running through an envelope filter on NIB, so the fuzz is being dealt a load of different frequencies to just plain bass.
I like my Fredric Unpleasant Companion on Bass and the Grumbly Wolf too (dist+ circuit). The UC is pretty brutal, basically just turns your bass into a square wave generator but backing off the volume a little and it gets rich and fuzzy round the edges - the tone circuit is subtle but useful and it's great on guitar too. It's the fuzz used for the bass tone from Exit Music for a Film buy Radiohead I believe.
